Maldives to ban Israeli tourists in protest of Israel’s war in Gaza | DW News

Israelis are no longer welcome in the Maldives according to the island nation’s president the decision which still needs to be made official comes after opposition parties pressured president Muhammad muu to take a stand against Israel’s war in Gaza it’s the latest and a slew of moves by Nations organizations and institutions that cut ties with Israel Over the war in response to mizu’s announcement Israel’s foreign Ministry recommended citizens don’t travel to the Maldives and leave the country if they’re already there Israel’s Embassy and India also suggested an alternative travel destination the Indian lakshadweep archipelago the travel tip reignites a previous ra after a visit to the Indian islands by prime minister Narendra Modi prompted derogatory statements from maldivian ministers the ministers called Modi a clown terrorist and Puppet of Israel the ban on Israelis visiting the Maldives is unlikely to have a big impact on the tourist revenue of the islands though only around 11,000 Israelis visited the Maldives last year making up just .6% of the archipelago’s visitors

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu said his administration would ban Israeli tourists in protest of Israel’s war in Gaza. The Israeli embassy in India suggested citizens travel to an Indian island chain instead, reigniting a feud between the Maldives and India’s Lakshadweep archipelago.
