Gaza ceasefire proposal: ‘There is a swirl of confusion around this deal at the moment’

[Music] as Israeli forces pounded rth in southern Gaza Qatari Egyptian and US mediators have called on Israel and Hamas to finalize a true deel that was outlined by US President Joe Biden scuffles broke out at the weekly protest in Tel Aviv 1 against Israeli government the other calling for the release of hostages held in Gaza there was anger after prime minister Benyamin Netanyahu had said agreeing to a permanent ceasefire before the destruction of Hamas was a narn starter meanwhile to farri right Minister said if he accepted the deal they would quit which would collapse his far-right ruling Coalition our chief forign editor Rob Parson following developments from Jerusalem and we can speak to him now hello to you Rob just how delicate is the political situation in Israel well well in a in a word very there is a srl of confusion around this deal at the moment nobody knows quite you know who is behind it who supports it they know who doesn’t support it that’s that much is true you mentioned two people on the right there uh the the security minister and the Finance Minister that’s ITA Ben and bezel smotrich they have made absolutely clear as they have done in the past that if there is support for a permanent ceas fire and Israel has not yet achieved what it calls total Victory uh in the Gaza Strip they will not support any deal they’ve repeated that today to Benyamin Netanyahu they’ve told him if he signs on to the deal that that’s on the table at the moment they with Will withdraw their support from his government which may cause it to fall or may not because there is support from elsewhere uh within the knesset uh from what of the parties hold 24 seats uh who who have said that if Benin n Netanyahu supports this deal and the rightwing threatens to pull the rug from under him they will give him the backing he needs to keep going so you know there are a lot of difficult decisions political decisions for bam Netanyahu to make before he decides which direction to jump what about the Public’s reaction to this proposal well there’s there’s been a certain amount of support for it the big demonstration in Tel Aviv last night where it’s estimated 120,000 people were there at it of the families of the hostages there were demonstrations all all over the country as well here in jerus Jerusalem in hia in cesaria among other places and they are fully behind uh this deal they’ have said that they you know we are going to put pressure on the members of the government on the Prime Minister on the knesset the Israeli Parliament to make sure this deal goes through uh it’s not absolutely clear where Benyamin Netanyahu the Prime Minister himself stands on this deal he made a statement uh yesterday Saturday uh saying that there could be no permanent ceasefire uh unless Israel had achieved all its objectives in the Gaza Strip which of course includes the complete destruction of Hamas but the question I suppose is what does that precisely mean the complete destruction of Hamas Joe Biden speaking the other day when he announced this deal said Hamas was already destroyed as a fighting organization and as a governing organization and there was an interesting comment made by the chief policy foreign policy advisor of binyamin Netanyahu offier FAL in Britain’s Sunday Times newspaper this morning in UK when he said Israel is not rejecting this deal Israel is not rejecting this deal but it is not a good deal is what he said uh and of course Israel will not back it uh in the second phase of the deal unless it’s achieved its objectives the destruction of Hamas so everything comes back to that issue again how do you define the destruction of Hamas indeed uh Rob thank you very much Rob Parson reporting from Jerusalem

Qatari, Egyptian and US mediators called on Israel and Hamas Saturday (June 1) to “finalise” the truce deal outlined by the US President, as Israeli forces pounded Rafah in southern Gaza. Shortly after Biden’s announcement, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu insisted his country would pursue the war until it had achieved all its aims. FRANCE 24’s Rob Parsons tells us more.

  1. Israeli president said in the beginning that there's no uninvolved civilians in Gaza
Israel finance minister said that returning the hostages is not a priority
Israeli prime minister said in 2019 that funding hamas is his strategy

It was never about the hostages nor about dismantling hamas it's just meaningless revenge and a land grab

  2. The plan is not to undermine a plan made by a commander in chief, but the essence of democracy is to resist commander in chief when about to provide a disastrous opinion!

  3. swirl of confusion???? NAH!!!
What do you expect from a confused geriatric robinette who cannot spell his first name!

  4. There is no confusion
Israel will not let Biden save Hamass
ANd the Democrats are financing these small leftist protests in ISrael

  5. I will only watch a movie that has an Art Director or Director of Photography in it. And since technology has replaced those positions in Hollywood, which the cameras do themselves I don't watch new movies. Only old Hollywood movies, and foreign movies. The Computer isn't artistic, people are. Emmanuel Macron, this is the Copernican Revolution that has taken place. The movies today with vulgar green screen, and the new technology, are flat and one-dimensional, aesthetically displeasing, just like their Mothers in the Dark Ages before them, believed the world was flat. Only an artist can give movies the depth and perspective, a great painter, computers can't do that, can do to a canvas. Technology has taken Art out of movie making. Film is the modern Art of the 20th Century. Long live, Robespierre! Long live modern Art!

  6. When has a brokered peace plan ever worked … never … Those that are at war never stop trying to finish what they started …. Politicians are either ignorant , stupid or have grandiose ambitions to be the savior of the world …. It’s all political bullsh!t …! Something that mass media of their chosen political affiliation love to feed off of . This will continue until the end of time ….

  7. “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places (Eph 6:12)”.

  8. The confusion is just business-as-usual. Israel always makes it look like they want an agreement, even while they're sinking it with inane conditions.

  9. the question is more, why media haven't found that out? what and who and is included in khammas, and what their definition of them is as a whole!?
and seems like they said the same thing, just in a different way.. US usually just use what makes it to sound better, and maybe that is, what makes it to sound contradictory or confusing!?

  10. Of course there is confusion. How can it not be confusing when the US and Israel always double speaking?

  11. This. Is nothing but a plea to save Yahia Synwar from being captured by the IDF & to save Hamas from extinction. It's a conspiracy of the Hamas biased Un. Sensible & civilized world community should stand against this conspiracy of the HAMAS biased UN. This is the better chance of erasing religious terrorism by the civilized nations.

  12. Palestinians are recovering the pieces of their dead children from the debris of US bombs illegally transferred to Israel in violation of Leahy Act and now the ICJ, and yet Joe Biden thinks he is the man to offer a sober and neutral compromise between these parties. This guy is absolute evil.

  13. The most important thing is – we should not miss the chance for ceasefire! Yes, there are still problems that need resolving but we can't wait everything to be perfect to stop fighting! This is getting ridiculous and it's so stupid, Hamas and Netanyahu!! Enough playing games with the lives of your citizens!

  14. POTUS said “this proposal is from Israel” but who in Isreal? … the guy who cleans the toilets out in the Knesset?

  15. This reminds me of when Biden said there would be a ceasefire before Ramadan. It looks like he is just making this stuff up and throwing it out there, without any input from either side.

  16. Somewhere its muslim mollas, somewhere christian mollas , somewhere its jewish mollas … all same … trying to execute 3000-1000 years old books .

  17. Biden’s words on TV verbatim “Israel has now offered, Israel has offered, a comprehensive…etc”. This is an Israeli Plan and NOT Biden’s Plan.
