Gaza and Ukraine top agenda as Macron hosts Biden for state visit | DW News

French president Emanuel macron and Joe Biden of the United States have welcomed the rescue of the four Israeli hostages from Gaza meeting in Paris the two leaders said they would work to reduce tensions in the Middle East including between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon the war in Ukraine was also in focus with both leaders affirming continued support for Kiev Biden warned that Russia’s Vladimir Putin would not stomp at Ukraine you know you know Putin m to stop at Ukraine it’s not just Ukraine it’s about much more than Ukraine all of Europe will be threatened we’re not going to let that happen the United States is standing strong with Ukraine we’re standing with our allies and we’re standing with France tww Sonia fnar told me more about the talks between Biden and macron well the main takeaway for me uh from those press statements that President Biden uh Biden and and macron made today in Paris is was really a message of unity and solidarity between France and the US and indeed all of Europe when it comes to supporting Ukraine that was the main message and really providing Ukraine with all the necessary weapons and resources it needs in order to kind of resist the Russian the ongoing Russian invasion which is now in its third year and and as we heard there President Biden made the point that this is really not just about Ukraine but it is really about the entire security of Europe which um is threatened by by this kind of ongoing Invasion and this is a message that President Biden had has repeated in recent days in France uh both at commemorations to Mark the 80th anniversary of the DJ Landings in Normandy but also when he met uh Ukrainian president vadir zalinski in Paris yesterday the message being of course that the US you know will stay the course and will stand by Ukraine for the Long Haul uh he underlined the importance of Defending freedom and democracy and he also reaffirmed uh you know the US’s commitment to the transatlantic relationship and to the NATO defense Alliance um what we also heard from the two leaders today was also a strong affirmation of of ties between the two Nations uh President Biden said these ties are kind of rooted in strong shared values you know France is often called the oldest Ally of the US The Diplomatic Ties That Bind these two countries uh really date back to the American Revolutionary War in the 18th century and the alliance during World War II and this is something that President Biden referred to uh today in his press statement and now Sonia we know that in the past there had been some tension between these two leaders was there any sign of that in their meeting this time around well on a personal level um the two leaders are set to enjoy a really kind of warm and Frank relationship and I think that was very much on display today uh both you know during the welcome ceremony and military parade uh at at the Shan Zizi in central Paris and also in their uh kind of meeting just before the the Press conf conference where we where we got some footage of the two leaders you know sitting together um but of course you know that despite those those kind of warm relations it doesn’t mean that the two leaders you know always see eye to eye uh on on everything for example when it comes to Ukraine uh president macon’s calls for potentially you know stationing French troops in Ukraine has gotten a pretty Frosty reception from the Biden Administration President Biden has expressed concern that if there is an attack on French forces uh by Russian troops it could lead to much wider escalation the two also don’t really see eye to eye when it comes to the to the war that is going on in Gaza and a particular point of tension of course is the economy and um the inflation reduction Act passed by the US in 20 2022 so fika reporting for us from Paris thank you so much

French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden have been holding talks in Paris, where Biden is on an official state visit.

Both leaders welcomed the release of four hostages held by Palestinian militants in Gaza by an Israeli military operation.

They also said they would increase efforts to ensure the current conflict in the Middle East doesn’t expand.

Ukraine also was on the agenda, with Biden warning once again that Vladimir Putin’s aggression wouldn’t stop with Kyiv, saying that all of Europe was at risk.

Biden has been in France since Wednesday, on a five-day pomp-filled state visit.

  1. Empty talk. Reality is that neither has provided Ukraine with the capabilities they need to repel Russian advancement because they're afraid of Putin.

  2. And Biden will not stop at Russia and Ukraine thats why he let the war in Gaza be alone even if it basically the same sort of war.

  3. Biden is correct by mistake for once …Ru would defend itself as well as respond to aggression not only from Ukraine but also from NATO.

  4. I love how we europeans just don't falter. Putin hopes and hopes and it just won't happen. I am so proud💪
    ❤🇪🇺

  5. The "dwarfs" with little man complex are ruling the world.

Usa has no allies… just countries with goverments that are forced into complicity for committing warcrimes all over the world…
Happily enough they do it for our values, freedom and democracy…. and we fo not live in the countries that get destroyed by the western rules based order…. truly lucky indeed.

  6. How many times does Biden Calls Putin's name in a a week😂? At least 5 times a week 😂… But Putin hardly even think of him. Putin has other more important things on his desk 😂

  7. war in Ukraine – Initiated by Russia as a part of its expancionist project (Putins nostalgia for USSR).

war in Gaza – Hamas, used by Russo-iranian qualition as a part of distruction strategy against the West.

    Do I miss something?

  8. In my view, yes Russian threat may not stop at Ukraine but it definitely also not help when one authorize the use of NATO weapons, provided by EU countries, to hit Russia. (Which can be interpreted as indirectly joining the war)

  9. Communist USA Joe Rob Ballots and Communist France Macron.
The Crocodiles Communists's drops Water of eyes for Soldiers Victims of Communism in Normandy.

  10. I think saying The US & France were ‘close’ allies during WW2 is stretching the truth a bit!
The US & France 1:03 differences of opinion on, well, just about thing, for the entire the post war period is very well documented.
    This is a misleading comment.
Why report to the contrary? Surely an opinion or interpretation can’t refute actual historical (in living memory in a lot of cases) fact?
    I’m just curious…

  11. Weak and insignificant "Leaders" are always united in destruction when their interests and their narrative is at risk of collapsing. These brainless fools are very dangerous to world security. .

  12. The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia continues to be a devastating conflict with profound humanitarian, economic, and geopolitical consequences. The relentless fighting has resulted in significant loss of life, widespread displacement, and immense suffering for countless civilians. It is crucial for the international community to remain steadfast in its support for diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a lasting peace. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected, and all parties should work towards a ceasefire and meaningful negotiations. The path to resolution lies in dialogue, not violence, and a concerted effort to address the underlying issues fueling this conflict!!!

  13. Biden may well be seen as a dithering old man, but his words of Russia's global intentions are stated in the Bible. Sadly, western democracies populations are not reading their Bibles nor going to church. Churches are too afraid to speak of End Times for fear of loss of "numbers".

  14. World Peace can be simply achieved: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself “ (Romans 13:9) … it’s up to mankind to heed !
