Ukraine war teaching defence industry how to combat future threats
for Ukraine it’s an urgent need to rapidly create a vast defense sector capable of supplying a military at War to do it keev is partnering with a host of Western firms BAE Systems open an office there last year the firm makes the Storm Shadow cruise missile that the UK supplied to keev it’s also working with Ukrainian firms to repair weapons like the l119 light gun another company forging links with Ukraine is the US defense giant KBR it’s provided various services to the British military for more than a decade from catering to Logistics and transport some will remember it as the firm that ran the water bottling plant at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan now it’s among a number of firms working with the UK government to explore opportunities in Ukraine I think there is a recognition that the UK government and Associated industry was and has been one of the more if not the most forward leaning certainly in terms of the European leadership role in NATO um and flowing from that I think you’re seeing good parts of of cooperation you’ll seeing major UK based defense industry primes opening offices in ke you’re having good two-way conversations you’re having a lot of inward trade missions from Ukraine into the UK facilitated by trade associations what which we’re part another company with a growing footprint in Ukraine is rhin metal the German defense firm is already involved in a joint venture to service and repair German armor sent to ke and there are reports it plans to set up at least four factories in Ukraine to produce 155 mm artillery shells military vehicles gunpowder and anti-aircraft weapons the Turkish company bayar which makes the bayaar tb2 Drone is investing $100 million into Ukraine and is planning to set up a drone production plant I think there is a growing realization uh arising from the war in Ukraine where the ukrainians have been forced to accelerate both the digital transformation but also not forget The crucial resupply of conventional uh Munitions and other capabilities you need both of those things it’s not one or the other and too often I think conversations on capabilities can be can be separated so this this war is teaching us and it’s a lesson for UK defense as well that we must have the appropriate structures from within the ministry of defense and the Frontline commands to engage industry in the round to ensure uh the UK defense has got the capabilities both digital and conventional that will ensure that we’re resilient when we confront these threats in the future for Ukraine bringing in Western investment is critical but it comes with some serious challenges production lines and the workers employed on them are vulnerable to Russian attack and there’s concerns among Western firms about the security of their intellectual property their Top Secret Designs corruption is also an ongoing issue but what Ukraine does have is firsthand operational experience against a peer adversary and that for Western companies is highly Val valued we hear a lot about lessons can be learned from the ukrainians um in terms of how technology and capability is being applied on the battlefield so that’s absolutely correct this is not a one-way Street um UK industry and UK mod have have as much if not more to learn from the ukrainians in that exchange and likewise British industry has a huge amount that it can provide to support the effort for Ukraine winning this war Remains the most pressing concern but there is a growing interest in the longer term giving keev the tools to keep Russia at Bay for many years to come there are major challenges Ukraine’s state-owned defense sector still has many hangovers from its Soviet past but efforts have begun and UK firms are among those at the Forefront Simon Newton forces news thanks for watching for more from forces’s news like And subscribe to our Channel
The Ukraine conflict shows that the UK needs to have a structure in place to work with industries to face modern threats, a leading defence company has said.
Defence industry giant KBR, which has been providing support to the British Army for more than a decade, will now be working with the UK to support Ukraine and says lessons can be learned on how to incorporate defence and industry in times of war.
“The UK industry and UK MOD have had as much, if not more, to learn from the Ukrainians in that exchange and, likewise, British industry has a huge amount it can provide to support the effort,” said the head of policy and public affairs for KBR, Hugo Rosemont.

The military industrial complex is nothing, if not opportunistic. Let's not let a devastating war stop some good old-fashioned profiteering
you'd think point-defense systems would be commonplace by now
Send in the Groans !
Autonomous, self-assembling FPV drones are going to be war winners.
Holodomor denial is Ukrainophobia and it deserves to be treated as Hate Speech the same way as Holocaust denial. Slava Ukraini from Switzerland. @joshuapaul2022, @sigmaputin6888, @EnglishVeteran, and @esthermalone2318 are so full of hate speech and they should all apologise for their Ukrainophobia
'Defence industry' benefits from legalised murder such as currently 'Israel' conflict.
The defence industry surely has a problem as we realise that Russians can make shells for 10x less than our lovely private companies supply them to us for.
Vietnam showed the weakness of jets
Falklands showed the weakness of Naval
Ukraine showed the weakness of tanks
And so it goes each time
How are they going to protect these factories, they sure will be a priority target for russia.
This should have been done in 2014. What is the point of setting up a defense industry in Ukraine when they don't have any money to buy the equipment.
This is why there will never be peace, too much money to be made. This conflict was engineered and supported by the west.
