Ukraine SMOKES Russian Air Defenses, But Russia Pushes Back!

is Ukraine on a campaign for air dominance and smoking Russian air defenses in the process I’m Paul US Army Combat veteran let’s talk about that plus Russia’s advances across the front line all right so this I thought was the most interesting story so far today and that is that Ukrainian forces seem to have pivoted some of their deep strike objectives that uh they seem to be targeting increasing numbers of Russian air defense batteries uh for example uh yesterday they hit an 300 and two S400 air defense batteries near uh sasap pole and belbeck but you also saw a number of other Uh Russian radar systems being targeted um you see uh additional uh s3000s uh in the occupied Ukraine uh there’s a wide variety of Russian air defenses that have been hit over the last couple of weeks now why is this though uh well it seems that perhaps Ukrainian forces are looking to increasingly win the battle in the air and if they can use the modern uh fighter air or multi- aircraft that they’re receiving um like the French Mirage and the f-16s that that could be something that proves more decisive in the battlefield right now the aircraft are not yet even delivered to Ukraine so it seems like Ukraine likely may want to uh sort of clear the airspace so to speak um in order to move this fixed wi aircraft close to the Frontline areas uh and the if you’ve ever served in a infantry role or ground combat role you understand that air support or close air support specifically is a GameChanger right an aircraft carrying High explosives uh High higher yield weapons uh can deliver really high level of precision but it only works if those aircraft can get close to the battle space right if the airspace is contested then those aircraft aren’t nearly as effective imagine of course if you were a Ukrainian infantry Soldier you were conducting an assault on a trench and just ahead of you a F-16 dropped a Hellfire onto the Russian trench line maybe the bunker you were trying to breach right delivering that kind of L large ordinance um or like a jdam for example uh the so-called bunker Busters those kind of ordinance can be really really effective uh at at hardened targets right that’s the kind of thing that these drones fpv drones can’t really do yet uh they they because drones are so small they have to become very they’re very targeted you notice that even drone attacks that Target uh armored forces tend to Target specific weak points within those those uh armored vehicles so if you could achieve even what’s uh you know there’s there’s General Air superiority but even localized air superiority would be something that would really be a massive enabler for Ukrainian forces and don’t even get me started on what it’s like to to be on the defense when you have close air support um again even local close air support if you can get close enough to Target Uh Russian uh columns armored columns conduct assaults uh it would make what’s already been kind of a buzz saw uh for Russian casualties into something even worse um this is in addition to the fact that uh Ukrainian Pilots are going to receive about 150 f-16s Ukrainian officials have said they want to use the f-16s uh to counter Russian Aviation operations but uh even just 18 aircraft would be enough to significantly impact the situation in Ukrainian airspace but is that again airspace dominance you have something to counter some of these Russian offenses and as you guys can see there’s a lot right you’ve got Russian advances across the front line right you’ve got them moving uh basically all up the East Coast you’ve got um viima right you can see Russian forces advancing along this tree uh Tree Line Windbreak uh likely going towards this town of vika now as you can see vika isn’t really on the road to anywhere and again this this is just reflective of kind of Russia’s priorities which anchored entirely around gaining more territory but when you look at places like Nova Alexandria you can see again a small Advance uh into a uh empty Windbreak uh not really all that good but you can see in Novo proov Uh Russian forces continue their Advance taking uh the The Village Center at least the crossroads that sort of forms the village uh but again this this is actually has may have some tactical significance uh credit where credits do um again is this on the road to somewhere maybe Novo lka persa uh they could be trying Russia could also be trying to Simply envelop this empty field here which would again if Russia’s priorities are seized territory then enveloping things like empty fields are actually where they want to go um you can see there’s also some advances uh near this town of car leka uh Again part likely of a Russian campaign to secure these two flanks before pushing the ukrainians out of uh yaso bodka uh in all likelihood the ukrainians are going to withdraw in good order before this becomes a crisis Ukraine is not in the business anymore of holding territory pointlessly um you can see also St stardo Maya um this is in the South and was the site of a lot of heavy fighting there’s literally nothing left of this Village uh so you can see Russian forces occupying it as we’ve talked about ukrainians there’s no real reason to mount some kind of Epic defense here um this has been you know just areas that Ukraine took during the counter offensive the idea was that this would facilitate some kind of larger breakthrough it didn’t and so there’s no real reason to hold it uh at tremendous cost you can see here KAS uh again minor advances um though again this is actually seizing actual urban territory but you can see there’s a mix here of real Russian progress and just kind of symbolic uh offensives for On The Road to Nowhere right nelski yeah Russia’s occupying a a tiny farming Village um but you can literally see that the only road going to or from nelski is leads into Russian controlled territory already so this is a lot of advances but it really I think some of them have tactical significance none of them appear to have like be on the road to like a major strategic objective um not a major Village or anything like that uh I think it’s just reflective of a reality that um the Russian forces are focused on seizing territory and ukrainians are focused on seizing um on inflicting casualties you can see here a small Russ Advance again this is It’s clarification likely the ukrainians were never really mounting a defense in this kind of territory on the flanks of venk at Baseline um and interestingly enough this shows Russian forces uh occupying this aggregate plant but cut off from other Russian forces this area outside the plant being contested which is very interesting it’s it’s extremely rare rare we’ve seen Russian forces get encircled or partially encircled again this whole area is listed as contested uh really interesting stuff so anyway guys that is really all I had I mean you can see the Russian focus of of of their offensives here focusing almost entirely on the East uh this likely reflects Putin’s increasing acceptance of the fact that um his victory is likely to look like the occupation of luans denet zapia oblast um and that additional territory is something that he’s probably not going to seize in any kind of meaningful numbers anyway that’s all I had thank you to the colonel tier members of Comb
