Ukraine is not closer to joining NATO than in 2014 #ukraine

first and foremost Ukraine was not close to Nato membership they were not close in 2014 they weren’t any closer in 20202 and the NATO policy right one NATO’s policy is anyone can apply Russia can apply to join NATO if they wanted to and the NATO policy also says so that technically Ukraine had just as likely a chance of membership as any other country Kazakhstan could apply for membership the open door policy and it’s been in place since the 1950s and the de facto it’s an Unwritten policy is that if you want to join NATO you have to control your Sovereign territory why because otherwise NATO would bring in a member currently at War and it would immediately trigger an article 5 or risk triggering an article 5 intervention and NATO doesn’t want to sign up for that right

  1. I think the point of the rhetoric is that it’s everyone saying that by the time the war actually ends, most of the behind the scenes work will have been done in advance, and Ukraine (with whatever its borders are like by then) with thus join at THAT point. Joining the alliance isn’t going to do them well in THIS current conflict (apart from helping to manage its aftermath), but it WILL help deter future ones with Russia.
(Pro-Russian/Anti-Ukraine commenting can be pathetic elsewhere please and thank you)🇺🇦

  2. Only European countries are allowed to have membership. Technically, 10% of Kazakhstan is in Europe, but its population is culturally Asian, so it's not clear that it would be allowed in.

  3. Even if Ukraine were eligible to join it would be stopped by Hungary, Turkey or any other country sympathetic to Russia. All NATO members must agree to new members joining.

  4. We were certainly pushing for Ukraine/nato membership , why do you think we installed a cia base to push a coup to install a pro western government? We wanted them in nato for strategic purposes and the trillions in minerals .
“They weren’t close to membership” but the moment the war popped off all the sudden all the Ukraine nato take became mainstream in the media and congress ??
    Use your head

  5. Alot of people say letting Turkey into Nato was a mistake. But if we didn't, they would already be at war with Greece. And Israel for that matter. It cuts both ways.

  6. Nato cannot accept a country that is actively at war for that reason. As time goes on. As circumstances require. Those guidelines can be adjusted. Ukraine will be a Nato member. Eventually. After Russia gets the fuck out. Or expands the war. Either way….

  7. Ukraine joining NATO isn't going to happen anytime soon. Even if they keep Russia out it will be a Country with corruption up to its neck. *Putin (not Russia) is going to make it his Life mission to get rid of Zelensky for a lot of years ahead. Once the Country gets its territory back its still going to be combating crooked leadership of Russian plants making it an unstable Allie. I'd just wish for ongoing support if I was Ukrainian because they are going to need economic support for long past any of our lives.

  8. Research, that was already an issue before
Putin. Ukraine being a NATO member, just
a doorstep to Russia, poses a big Threat to
RUSSIA, which the aim of the WEST is to control Central Asia, very rich in mineral Deposit, and they want to have the control
of the Baltic. If it is not Vladimir Putin, a very strong leader for its people, standing tall against the Collective WEST, Russia could have been in the control of the WEST.
Realize, that WORLD opinion is Pro-Putin.
He isn't the Bad Guy here.

  9. I think you also have to eliminate corruption or at least show that you have working laws to prosecute those that are corrupt. Ukraine has come a long way from it's soviet era corruption but there's still some work to do.

  10. NATO is not, and never will be, a threat to Russia. What is is, is a threat to Russia bullying and invading it’s neighbours.

  11. Russia applied but got declined by America. Ukraine wanne be part of NATO because it is the only way saving Zelenky's Nazi Regime from complet defeat! why you don't mention that SBU did order planting claymore mines at the border to Rumania and Mooldowa so young ukrops guys can't cross the boarder saving theyr life from being kidnapped by Zelensky's recruiters?

  12. Russia cant join NATO!!!! They tried in the past… And BTW the purpose of NATO is to protect alliance from Russia… Dont be funny.

  13. So much bullshit. NATO does not spread? Of course, Russia surrounded America and spread into Canada and Mexico. And he can't wait to steal America's riches.

  14. The United States Vice President told Zelensky in front of press she wanted Ukraine to join. The U.S. has been orchestrating this for over a decade.

  15. Ukraine is 50 or more years from being able to join NATO. Even if the population overwhelmingly agrred to unite and make joining NATO a national priority, it would take that long.

Every NATO member is going to require Ukraine to appear to be a stable, self sufficient country with control of its territory and no hint of any internal or external dispute that would potentially cause concern.

Ukraine aspires to be able to join NATO, regardless of if they actually do. Just being able to means that they are in a significantly better position than yhey have been at any time in history.

NATO is essentially a sovereign defense insurance program. You can't buy homeowners insurance while your house is on fire. You can't buy flood insurance while you are evacuating for a category 5 hurricane. You also cant be in the middle of a war and join NATO asking for help.

That said….. Kuwait was able to get the United Nations to enf the Iraqi invasion. The system worked that one time. Unfortunately, Russia has veto power at the UN so there is nowhere for Ukraine to go for help. The UN is meant to serve this role, not NATO.

  16. Paul, you choose to ignore the 2008 Bucharest Summit where western allies declared their intent that Ukraine and Georgia would join NATO.

That in itself would trigger Russia.

  17. Yeah makes no sense to send them technology. The Russians can easily take our technology off of the fallen soldiers. It’s a perfect opportunity to see how United States weaponry operates. Who know’s what kind of weaponry Russia truly has or what kind of intelligence they’re truly trying to unveil as well
