  1. The club is from the commune of Pompei near Naples, home to the famous ancient Pompeii city that was buried by the ashes of an eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius, now a famous tourist spot. In 2022, they acquired the place of San Giorgio in Eccellenza Campania, the highest tier of regional football leagues in Italy, and started to compete there. In their very first season, they managed to finish 3rd in the table in regular season, but lost to Ercolano in the play-off finals (Ercolano is home to the ancient Herculaneum city that was also buried by the same eruption) and failed to advance to the national promotion play-offs. However, in the following season, they managed to finish 2nd in the regular season, defeat Nola 2-0 in the play-off finals to move on to the national play-offs, then passed two clubs from Sicily—Pro Favara and Modica—to gain a spectacular promotion to Serie D!

Interestingly enough, Costa d’Amalfi, another Campanian club that won the play-offs in the other group, also just passed the national play-offs and promoted (https://www.reddit.com/r/seriea/s/c6FOElPUiY), that would make two Campanian teams that are from famous tourist attractions promoting to Serie D via play-offs in the same year! Also interesting is that Juve Stabia, which is from the commune of Castellammare di Stabia, home to the ancient Stabiae city that was buried in the same eruption, also managed to win their group in Serie C to promote to Serie B earlier this season. It’s a shame that Ercolano failed to promote last year and didn’t make any wave this year either, or we could’ve have the year of the Campanian tourist towns in Italian football this year!

Also here’s a question: on their social media, the club claims that this will be their first ever promotion to Serie D, but according to some statistics I’ve looked, there’s a club called “Pompeiana” also from Campania that have played 1 season in Serie D at one point in history too. Are those two not the same club?
