Ukraine facing death by a thousand cuts amid relentless Russian attacks, ex-general warns

the past six months have been some of the hardest of the war for Ukraine a failed counter offensive shortages of Munitions and Manpower and increasing Russian assaults but ke hasn’t folded it’s inflicted huge casualties on Vladimir Putin’s military some estimates say 180,000 Russian troops have been killed or injured for the gain of just 510 Square kilm so what factors will influence the trajectory of this war as we go towards 2025 MC Ryan is a former Major General in the Australian Army and has written a book looking at the strategies at play in Ukraine really is these this Death By A Thousand Cuts because the ukrainians are having to defend against dozens and dozens and dozens of individual taxs across hundreds of kilometers of the front line every day and that does slowly but surely wear down a a military and a nation the general told me he believes there are four key factors that will shape the conflict over the coming months and years starting with Europe’s ability to step up its supplies of weapons and ammunition you know Europe does finally appear to have woken up it’s taken a while um you know it said it woke up two years ago but it’s actually starting to do things that demonstrate it has woken up with increased defense spending you know more countries are meeting the 2% of GDP more will probably exceed that in within the next couple of years potentially and you’re seeing more Partnerships uh industry Partnerships with Ukraine and other countries to increase defense output so you know I I think that could have a fairly significant impact on Ukraine’s capacity to defend itself and beat the Russians a second major influence will be how key views this long War and what it deems an acceptable end ultimately it will be about you know the mechanism by which they can both win the war and win the peace it’s very difficult if it was easy we’d all be doing it and there’d be a clear pathway forward but it’s extraordinarily difficult and you know I think it’s something that the president his military his economic his diplomatic his cyber and all his advisers will be working on to produce and um work with Nat the United States and and other uh strong supporters in Europe like the United Kingdom to get right over the course of this year a third Factor says general Ryan will be events in other parts of the world and how far they distract political attention money and the media from what’s happening in Ukraine once uh Hamas attacked Israel and then Israel went into Gaza that Drew away not just a lot of political attention it drew away the attention of diplomats and strategic decision makers and planners it drew away resources and it certainly Drew away the attention of the media um you know for example CNN deployed almost all its teams from Ukraine to Israel and that shapes public opinion President Putin and I have been discussing various things and finally there’s the matter of November’s presidential election and what the return of Donald Trump could mean for Ukraine if Donald Trump does win the US election there’s been an assumption in in many communities that you know he’ll seek to do a deal with Putin and that you know he’s aable to something like that well that could be the case but it could well be that you know Putin doesn’t play ball or doesn’t play allall in a way that Trump thinks is advantageous to Trump’s view of the world and Trump might decide well actually maybe we need to double down and smash this guy I I think that’s within the Realms of possibility might be low probability but I don’t think we should just assume that Trump is going to roll over uh and let Putin scratch his belly as you know as attractive as that metaphor might be for some people the general believes Russia will continue its War of Attrition in Ukraine to C it ke will have to continue adapting and developing new strategic Methods at the same time as destroying as much of Russia’s War Machine as it can that says general Ryan May one day convince Vladimir Putin that his Ukrainian gamble will never pay off Simon Newton forces news thanks for watching for more from forces news like And subscribe to our Channel e

After six months of setbacks, failed counter-offensives and heavy losses, the Ukrainian armed forces are suffering “death by a thousand cuts”, according to a former general.

Despite inflicting punishing losses on Russia, which is currently losing up to 1,200 soldiers per day, Ukraine is being strained by relentless Russian attacks in an attempt to wear down the country.

Retired Australian Army Major General Mick Ryan said: “It really is this death by a thousand cuts.”

  1. President Obama refused to arm Ukraine in 2015 because he said the only result would be exactly what we are seeing. Biden and Stoltenberg can never in the future say they weren't warned…

  2. This war is only benefiting the military company complex in America. 90% of the aid sent to Ukraine has been spent on military contractors. Blinken has said this himself.

  3. Ukraine isn't going to go along with a Trump-Putin deal that's not in Ukraine's interest.

I can't see Trump getting elected again, he was barely elected the last time. He'll lose by a greater margin this. 3 million 2016, 7 million 2020.

  4. Russia is forever going to be paying for this terror act (war).
By the time world anger wears off oil and gas will be eclipsed by new energy technology. Making russias only export (besides weapons) useless. Just like their weapons.

  5. Youve got this completely backwards.
Ukraines military is becoming stronger by the day. While russias military is weakening. As is its ability to fund the war and it's own government.
Failed former president Trump will not win re election.
The American people will not allow a lying facist convicted felon back in power.

  6. Russia are stalled lets face it but maybe they grabbed a couple of fields with suicide attacks. Ukraine defence lines are holding out pretty well

  7. The counteroffensive was forced upon Ukraine, keep that in mind. No reasonable person wanted Ukraine to commit such a counteroffensive at that time. The West has been entirely too slow to give Ukraine what it needs. History will judge these spineless leaders harshly.

  8. Justin Trudeau acknowledged that Canada’s military is woefully short on supplies, but blamed the situation on our contributions to Ukraine.
"Why are we still fighting certain veterans groups in court? Because they're asking for more than we are able to give right now,"
    Justin 🇨🇦

Trump called him out 2 %
half of the military's equipment is considered "unavailable and unserviceable" — says a recent internal Department of National Defence (DND)

The Canadian Armed Forces has lost respect of allies, as Trudeau is the Deadbeat Dad of NATO.

  9. Start by talking to Putin in a manner which he will listen: long range missiles massive air support, massive surveilance support and crippling sanctions to all areas of Russia including those western companies who still operate in Russia.
