Ukraine’s unpopular draft law brings in more recruits. So what is the army planning next? | DW News

An unpopular mobilization law to replenish Ukraine’s troop numbers is working better than expected, according to the military. The army says if the number of new recruits continues to rise, it may be in a position to draft a demobilization law later this year. That would allow war-weary troops on the frontlines some much needed rest.

  1. So an army of seven hundred and fifty thousand too one million men and has only suffered about thirty one thousand casualties…. is facing a manpower shortage…… Something doesn't add up here.

  2. EU not being able to do the most basicthing for Ukraine by forcing the young Ukrainian draft dodgers to defend their homeland…..sad

  3. So Ukraine is resorting to Russian tactics? Drafting inmates, drafting demoralized recruits, and not treating women the same? Yeah Ukraine fanboys, Ukraine such a western morally aligned country.

  4. The new measures (conscription) "were unpopular". The DW spin on Ukraine never stops. This war has been a debacle for the people of Ukraine, but DW always sees sunshine.

  5. Слава Україні!🇺🇦❤️ Героям Слава!🇺🇦❤️ Дякуємо за життя всім хто захистив і захищає!

  6. Some of this isn’t explained correctly. While there is recruitment and a draft, what is taking place currently is that people are required to update their contact information with the draft office. If you have seen videos or stories about the mobilization people hunting down men, it was to update their information. Some of these stores give the impression that they grab a guy on a bus and drag him to the front, when it’s usually just to update his info, unless he actually had been drafted already

  7. They should give up. They’re wasting time, money and lives, they could have just given up, everyone would still be alive, the country wouldn’t be in ruins. Ukraine being different to Russia is like saying Scotland isn’t part of the UK or Texas part of the USA, minor cultural differences, but History says they belong to Russia. Confused bunch of border Cossacks, Ukraine has only existed since 1991, upstarts, give up, stop wasting our money, apologise to mother Russia and move on.

  8. no country should be drafting men over the age of 50, ukraine needs to get the draft down to 18, and implement mandatory one year military service with an optional second year choice with benefits such as 10% less federal income tax for lifetime and first chance at employment for state , county, and city jobs.

  9. "…fortunately western support starts coming in".
    That is very politely said.
    Reality is:
Had it come in in time, Ukraine had not had THAT much of a recruitment problem,

  10. all US males aged 18-25 are required by law to sign up to the US Draft… Ukraine should consider itself lucky that the draft age is as high as it is…
