Ukraine says it now controls around a thousand square kilometers of Russian territory. Kyiv’s surpise offensive, the biggest attack on Russian soil since the Second World War, has prompted a swift reponse. President Vladimir Putin has sent tank and troop reinforcements to the Kursk region. He accuses Ukraine of sowing unrest and trying to gain leverage before any possible peace talks.

  1. Settlements? Not towns or villages, but settlements, makes it sound like they haven't been there very long, which may be the case given Russia's tendency to forcibly shift ethnic populations around.

    It's good if Ukraine succeed but Russia has lot of troops they won't leave the Ukraine unless they are defeated.

    I think Ukraine only dividing the necessary troops which could be used in their home
    Unless the troops that fighting in Russia is from other countries.

    Let's see how this plays out.

  11. Just watched a video about how Bali has 101,000 russian "tourists" at the moment. Sounds like there should be plenty of room in russia for all the evacuees from the Kursk region

  12. It's amazing how so many people in the west dance and wine with shout of victory anytime Ukraine throws some punches. Yet, none of those punches thrown by Ukraine over the past two years has yielded any benefit. In a shortwhile, this also will end in catastrophy for Ukraine. Most likely, none of those Ukrainian soldiers inside Russia is going to return home alive. NATO is just using Ukraine as a sacrificial lamb.

  27. As we see Ukraine blow apart Russia's illusion of strength. We have to be clear to support Ukraine to take the rest of its territory back. Ukraine isn't in Russia because of its allies support but rather our lack of support. Ukraine has a right to win this war in its defense.

    Ukraine has shown us the need to defend democracies around the world. We owe Ukraine our unyielding support.

  33. How about exchange of lands, Russia must return Crimea, Donbas and any other regions it tries to take and Ukraine will return those lands. Exchange already, end the war. Russia probably will have better chance taking the half of Manchuria it failed to take in WWII.

  44. This will just give zelenskyy harsher peace conditions I'm afraid, remember that the germans invaded Russia with 5 million men and failed (Soviet I know,but the main portion of Soviet was Russia), and it didn't end well for the german population at the end of the war.

    By invading russia the Russians will have a bigger grudge.

  45. War is horrible and wrong. Why can't leaders realise all they are fighting for is their egos? Putin and Zelensky wouldn't get bullets but their people do. In the end, both lose out. Compromise and negotiate, not fight!

  47. When Russian forces entered Ukraine in 2022 there were multiple incidents when civilians protested and tried to stop Russian tanks with their bare hands. I totally missed anytilhing like this now, looks like Russians are just peacefully waiting for Ukraine to liberate them from Putin
