Will Ukraine’s allies let Kyiv use long-range missiles inside Russia? | DW News

Ukraine has attacked and damaged a third bridge in Russia’s Kursk region, as Ukrainian forces continue their surprise incursion on Russian soil.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the aim of the operation is to create a buffer zone to protect Ukraine and to destroy as much Russian military capacity as possible.

But Ukrainian officials say they could achieve even more if it allies were to lift restrictions on the usage of long-range western missiles to attack targets deep inside Russia.

Kyiv has already been given weapons like the French-British Storm Shadow cruise missile, but allies have forbidden their use on Russian soil.

Zelenskyy has argued that the restrictions are the main reason Ukrainain forces haven’t managed to fend off the advance of Russian troops on the frontlines in eastern Ukraine.

  13. The west won't let Ukraine use long range weapons to defend themselves, so Ukraine found their own way to get the job done.
    I see no issue here.
    Russia has the power to stop this incursion today. Just stop the war, and move out of all Ukrainian territories. Ukraine will do the same.

  24. Ukraine is gaining momentum, which is great to see. However, let's not forget that we all have moments when we can make desperate decisions. I just hope Putin doesn't get angry because if he does, innocent Ukrainian civilians could end up paying with their lives due to Zelinsky's desire to push further. I doubt zelensky soldiers will reach moscow, zelensky better finds a way to negotiate with crazy putin because I'm pretty sure lots of ppl will die soon, just wait to putin lose his mind and sends 50 or up to 100 jets and bombers, seems to me zelensky is ignoring and playing with fire he better speak with nato leaders and to negotiate peace.

The war was facilitated and comedian Zelenski followed the instructions.. Now it is ironic that for prolonged periods of time allies wonder about equipment and use of missiles, when half of Ukraine is destroyed and million people died.. and btw tyrant Putin is not going to give those territories back..

  44. Ukraine army bombed the bridges to prevent Russian getting into Kursk .It seems that Ukraine army is not trying to invade

    further into Russia from Kursk . Putin would most likely let the Ukraine army stay in Kursk until Nov. when the weather

    is becoming cold . Russian army would most likely attack Kursk just before the US election , and defeat the Ukraine

    army in a big way and help Trump to become the US President again ! Biden wants Ukraine to fight to the last Ukrainian !
