Tim Walz gives coach’s pep talk, whips up crowd during keynote DNC address
Vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz headlines the third day of the Democratic national convention, using his past as a high school football coach to pull out a sporting metaphor to describe the party’s place in the election campaign: ‘It’s the fourth quarter. We’re down a field goal, but we’re on offense and we’ve got the ball. We’re driving down the field, and boy do we have the right team … Kamala Harris is ready.’ In a heartwarming moment, Walz’s son, Gus, could be seen crying in the stands, mouthing ‘that’s my dad’, as Walz spoke on his personal experience with fertility treatments and hit out at Republicans, telling them to ‘mind your own damn business’ on IVF care.
