MdL’s camp’s perception was that FCB “were playing a game” during conversations about his prospects & wanted him to go.He was told by Kompany that he wasn’t responsible for the decision & was his “No1 defender”. Perception was that a choice had been made, at board level, to facilitate his departure.

  1. Yes? It was very obvious from the beginning that it’s him who has to go, because of his high wages and transfer fee value.

Add his injury record, mediocre buildup, mediocre speed (for kompanys high line) and it makes sense

It’s a shame tho, because he is a great character and leader

  2. Possible, but we dont know if this is true.

Fact is, he wouldn’t have been optimal for Kompanys playstyle. Upa and Kim(and Neuer) push extremely far up, and are basically a 3 man midfield in attack. De Ligt was the weakest of our defenders with the ball.

Saying that, I still hate that decision. It was clearly for money reasons mainly, but cmon, isnt a top defender who you can trust 100% and is a leader worth 17 mio for one year? Especially with our injury history and more games then last season, we really could have needed him.

  3. Is this news? Idk whether Kompany told him he would be his No1 defender or not but the reports from the beginning said that the wages are the primary reason of selling him, not Kompany, coaches don’t run the show at Bayern, no surprises there.

  4. A source close to De Ligt saying that is no surprise at all.

  5. But all the people here told me Kompany didn‘t want him because he wouldn‘t fit his play style :0

  6. Bayern is pretty scummy. Where is the mia san mia when it comes to the players ?

  7. 🙁 I miss his passion. In a perfect world we’d have kept him and he would have improved his passing.

  8. Haha I love that all these internal things come to light, it is so entertaining 🙂

  9. Why did we have to lose 20 Million selling him. He cost 67M 2years ago? I’m not sure, yet everybody besides him is happy. My guess is they had to make him cheaper, so United pays him the same money. His contract was too good for the board that wants to bring salaries down.

  10. What I don’t get is how some folks fall in line with the penny pinchers who are driving these sales. It’s one thing if the team is struggling financially and needs to sell players to keep the team competitive, but our team, like other Bundesliga teams is fairly financially transparent. We are not in or close to any such dire financial straits. While it’s smart to get our pay scale better in line, doing so in this manner is just poor. Also- do people really expect Bayern to continue to attract the best players to Germany without some extra money? I’m a fan, and even I don’t see that happening outside a certain sphere in Europe.
