China’s New Silk Road: Beijing increases its influence in Nepal • FRANCE 24 English

From infrastructure to tourism, China is strengthening its control over its smaller neighbour Nepal. Beijing has been increasing its investment in trade, tourism and reconstruction since Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake. It is also sending teachers to teach Chinese to the Nepalese, gradually turning them away from India. Caught between the two Asian giants, Nepal’s allegiance is constantly shifting, as projects and investment deals come and go. FRANCE 24’s Léa Delfolie, Khansa Juned and Bhadra Sharma report.

  8. just wanted to clarify something here; the narrator tells that Lumbini is the place where Gautam Buddha was said to have been born. Well, that is the ultimate truth and Buddha was born in Lumini in Nepal. So should have been a definitive statement rather than using phrases (like assumption) 'said to have been born'…Jai Nepal

  10. India employs low paying soldiers in Gurkha Rifles, uneducated Nepalese as watch guards, restaurant/hotel helpers, and sex worker trafficking.

  11. Nepal was forced to choose china like any other neighbors of India. We can exclude pakistan since she has rivalry with india for a long time but what about other neighbors? From maldives to nepal, every one them moved to china since india always want to reap benefits and give nothing in return. If you want to say china is aggressively trying to increase their territory, then let me remember you india is also trying to do the same thing, just that their scale of operations are small since their military might way below china.

I don't know why Nepalese people are dancing in comment, but i will clarify to you that the politics behind this advance is the easy access to india for purposes like trades and if they want to hold some diplomatic meetings outside their country,they need a neutral ground and of course if there is a war between those countries.

  20. In Nepal, you can find institute which can teach you the language of mars and can even send you there😂. There are more language schools in Kathmandu than the actual school/colleges.

  23. China is our big brother and very helpful for us we love china 🇨🇳 we want our government should follow chinese policy because chinese policy is not corrupt policy. We still remember when india does blockade on nepal it was china who provides us free high quality petrol ❤
