In the Netherlands it’s quite embarrassing if you have a disability and not have a Paralympic medal.
We (Denmark) beat Sweden, Norway and Finland that’s all that matters.

We don’t have nearly the same amount of investment and socio economic conditions as other nations, so seeing us being top 5 in a global competition is impressive as fuck

Although the table doesn’t show it, just want to throw in an honourable mention of India here. After finishing Olympics with 1 silver and 5 bronze in 71st position, our Paralympians knocked it out of the park with our best ever performance, winning 7 golds and overall 29 medals to finish 18th. Considering the level of investment they get, this was an insane collective performance from them
China’s domination is unreal
this just goes to show how ableist australia and japan are. top 4 for the olympics, but not for the paralympic games. shame on them.

Being top of the Olympic medal table is generally geopolitical dick swinging.
The Paralympic medals table is an indication of how you as a nation assist people with disabilities. Exceeding yourself in the Paralympics, says a lot about you as a country.
