A world in crisis: can Europe cope without the US? | To the Point
War in Ukraine, war in the Middle East, and severe hurricanes in the US: The final weeks of Joe Biden’s administration are intense – and they are giving Europe a taste of what it means to stand alone.
The planned visit of the US president to Germany, including a major conference on Ukraine is now cancelled. It is becoming increasingly clear: ‘America First’ is also the mantra for the Democrats. What does this mean for their European allies? As a third winter of war in Ukraine looms, how much protection against Putin can the West still provide?
On To the Point we ask: A world in crisis: can Europe cope without the US?
Guests this week are Sudha David-Wilp from the German Marshall Fund, Marco Overhaus from the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, and DW’s Roman Goncharenko.

Biden can only attend meetings, not actively participate.
One a lapdog still lapdog..
Is
Eu is US lapdog…😂😂😂😂
I think those hurricanes have been all consuming. They need their president.
Zelensky can implement his plan with his own money not American taxpayers money. He has received too much of our money.
Zelinskys “victory plan”🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Biden legacy is a whole lotta body bags. Nothing more.
Europe can but they choose not to
Finally someone is asking the right question ⁉️
Destabilizing europe is easier than people imagine….
💯
No one is saying it loud but it is a tell tale sign that USA's economic and military might is in declining order, unfortunately 😢
Can US survive without Europe ?
To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal .
Germany has been half converted into a Sausage on the Menu by his US ally at the moment .
It is essential for Europe to keep distance from the US Warmongers where possible , to avoid additional turmoil .
Putin is only interested in the security of Russia ( & NATO not coming too close ) . He has no intention to conquer EU .
Ukraine has to become neutral and not to become an " Israel nation " in Europe , which will lead to more Wars .
It is time that Europe realised that the US has been bleeding Europe dry financially since the beginning of WWI. Relying on the US military puts Europe at the mercy of American politics and at risk of abandonment if they do not follow the US line. With Trump possibly being "APPOINTED" as president by the US Russian supporters the EU should think on visa restrictions for all RUSSIANS and their supporters! Members of the EU should face schengen visa restrictions if they openly support countries that continue to threaten the EU with nuclear war or even financial restrictions/war. Friends of Russia should face visa restrictions or even outright denial which could also include members of the US government if the US decides to facilitate a Russian victory in Ukraine. Time for Europe to spend its money on defence items manufactured in the EU!
There was a hurricane 3 weeks before the election, of course the president would stay instead of going to Europe, what an ignorant opening statement
You don't need protection from Putin but yourselves.
😂😂😂😂
Can European warmongers leave us alone? We will vote for Trump
Thanks for the chat.
If Europe had not tried to take Ukraine and provoke Russia then Europe do not need the protection.
More likely can the US cope without Europe?
over 50 countries were to meet, all independent, free and sovereign..then one country's leader cancelled his attendance….and boom the other free, independent and sovereign states could not go ahead……..kikikikikikiki probably they have no real freedom, are not really independent, have no sovereignty beyond that given to them by the Master…..are these others trying to Ukraine something they themselves have not have?
It is all under lend lease, isnt it? So we get paid back if Ukraine survives this war. It is not a bad deal.
EU is rich enough to defend itself, let them carry their own weight. The new threat is in the East and it wants to flex its muscles and gobble everything in its path. Remember it was the Japanese who attacked the US in WW2. Not the Germans.
Pacific theater is the higher threat to US security. Europe is secondary.
Word to the wise: Remember Pearl Harbor
Without the US, EU definitely has far less casualties.
