    Protectionism never works. It always damages the nation implementing it, and frequently benefits the supposed target. Let's take EV batteries as an example. They are currently imported from China, so would be subject to Trump's 200% tariff (i.e. after the importer pays the tariff, the batteries cost three times the original price). Now, US EV and hybrid cars contain batteries which are three times what they used to cost, and batteries are a huge part of the cost of these vehicles. They cannot possibly be competitive with cars made overseas. Since US auto manufacturers will effectively be forced to stop making hybrids, China will have a surplus of batteries, lowering their price. What do you suppose will happen with them? They will go into EVs made in China. The Chinese EV manufacturers will now be able to flood the market with EVs that are way cheaper than any other manufacturer can make EVs. China will gain a massive boost in world market share, while the US will not even have a toe in the water, all because Trump is an idiot.

    If you take his argument that the tariffs are not intended to be applied to imports, but to prevent imports, you then get into extreme protectionism. This is where for instance he's trying to protect the US car industry. The problem is that their costs will be so high that they can only sell to the home market. They won't be able to compete on the world market, even if there aren't reciprocal tariffs. Having no overseas competitors, they get flabby, not needing to compete on quality, reliability, efficiency, fuel economy, new technologies etc. America has tried this before, and the US auto industry nearly didn't survive. It's still about 10-20 years behind the rest of the world in many respects. Once again, Trump is an idiot. What he thinks will boost the US car industry will be its downfall.

    MAGA Mike will almost certainly not be Speaker of the House on J6. The new Congress starts on J3, when it elects the Speaker. Even if the House is still Republican, I doubt they'd re-elect Johnson.

    "Big Tech firms" are allowed to censor whoever they want. It's perfectly legal. They are not the government. What about big firms like Fox, NewsMax, etc. who block coverage of Democrats rebutting the lies of the right? Should Democrats be investigating them? If JD Vance thinks social media has the power to change elections, what about the Russian interference in the 2016 election? By his logic, Trump would never have been president, and the US would have been a much happier, more united nation now. Hundreds of thousands who died because of his mishandling of COVID would still be alive. Prices would be much lower, because there would be no stupid, protectionist tariffs.
