Norway-Vulcan School District plans renovations

  • 12.11.2024

NORWAY, Mich. (WLUC) – Administrators at the Norway-Vulcan Area School District are already looking forward to renovating the school.

Last Tuesday, voters approved a bond proposal for the district which could raise almost $10 million.

District Superintendent Lou Steigerwald thanks people who supported the proposal.

“Well first I want to thank our voters, thank the school board, and a lot of folks, employees and parents who helped us to get the bond passed,” Steigerwald said. “We’re super happy about that. And we’ll be excited to get projects started.”

The school hopes to use the money to repair critical infrastructure to the school.

Repaving parking lots, upgrading the school’s heating and cooling systems, and new flooring are just some of the upcoming jobs.

Steigerwald says work could begin this summer.

“There’s a process in how we have to sell the bonds first, then we have to have the dollars in the account, we have to put out for bids, and then we determine what projects we can do this coming summer,” Steigerwald said. “As well as planning for months after that.”

Another focus is repairing the school’s outdoor athletic facility. The track on Ronberg Field is not able to host major track and field competitions.

Steigerwald says the repairs are likely to happen sooner than later.

“So, we look to get that done as soon as we can because we have a very short window before football season starts and we start having football games there,” Steigerwald said. “That will be a priority for us because of the brevity of the time we have to do that.”

The bond starts at the beginning of the next school year.

It will run for a maximum of 10 years.
