Taiwan is a ‘province of China’: China’s ambassador to Australia

China’s ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian has urged Australia to continue recognising there is “only one China” and Taiwan is a “province of China”.

“52 years ago, we established diplomatic ties,” Mr Xiao said at a media conference on Tuesday.

“The government of Australia recognised there’s only one China, and Taiwan is a province of China.

“This is a serious commitment from the Australian government over the past several decades, and I am aware that each and every government in this country has been reaffirming their commitment on this issue.”
