Snow flurries were flying above Little Switzerland Ski Area on Wednesday as crews worked around the clock to prepare for opening weekend.The popular ski hill in Slinger is set to open Saturday, Nov. 30, to season pass and 4x pass holders from noon to 8 p.m. and then to the general public Sunday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m.”Our customers are super stoked to get out here,” co-owner Rick Schmitz said. Schmitz said more than 40 snow-making machines have been running since Monday night to prepare for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes. “This snow-making window is unlike any I’ve really seen in my career where we have this long of a sustained run,” Schmitz said. The winter-like temperatures this week have helped keep the machines running consistently. Schmitz said that with temperatures forecast to drop even lower Thursday and Friday, he hopes to have a few feet of snow pack on the ground before opening Saturday. “Last year, it was a battle with Mother Nature, very small snow-making windows, very warm snow-making windows, nothing like we’re seeing right now,” he said.The business is hoping to bounce back after a challenging 2023 season.
