Recount order, TikTok claims throw Romania election into chaos • FRANCE 24 English

Romania’s presidential election was thrown into chaos Thursday as a court ordered a recount of first-round results and security officials alleged that interference via TikTok had boosted a little-known far-right candidate. The Romanian presidency said security officials had detected “cyberattacks” intended to influence the outcome of Sunday’s vote.   5. It is unfair to accuse Calin Georgescu of being opaque by launching his campaign on social media (usually free or very cheap) including tiktok. This strategy is not illegal or fraudulent, especially when Georgescu was not invited to any traditional media events, or televised broadcasts and debates with opponents so he figured out that he could capitalise on social media. And it worked! Anyway, there is a sign that the system and the EU are dissatisfied with the results of the first round. So, a recount. They (EU and Globalists) were not pleased with results in Georgia and no eyebrows were raised as to the level of fraud in recent elections in neighbouring Moldova, though the Moldovan diaspora in Russia, some 300 000 citizens (10% of the total population) were barred from voting because of only 10 000 ballots, 2 voting precincts available in all of Russia– not very democratic in my view.

  10. So sad. Adults should be able to hold multiple thoughts in their heads at the same time. While people are trying to make democracy impossible for everybody, why give in and not instead get involved and make it better. If democracy isn’t for the people, what is the other choice? Just sit and pay taxes for no governmental services in return? What is the other choice.? No government is going to have ppl sit and pay nothing, so you might as well set some expectations in exchange for tax money. Democracy works, we are learning the lessons of becoming apathetic, lazy and uninformed… we have to get up and become the keeper of our institutions. No one is coming to do it for us. It’s our turn now, to fail our children and grandchildren would be so disgraceful. Especially when we know good and well that we are being targeted by authoritarian governments. Why give them the satisfaction?

  13. You got it wrong. The relationship between your titles is of correlation, not of causation.
    The Constitutional Court ordered the recounting because of accusations of fraud – and civil society profoundly dissatisfied woth this decision as independent observers are denied access to the process. This will result in even more chaos and uneducated people reorienting themselves massively even more towards extreme nationalist "outsider" parties.

  14. Lol, one month ago they celebrated the anti-russian woman Kaja Kallas for using TikTok and many other social platforms to win the election. Now the same happened in Romania, but the candidate is not anti-russian. Of course they claim everything is rigged now. The clearly rigged elections in Moldava were celebrated in the west, it was anti-russian. At the same time, they called for protest in Georgia after the election, it was pro-russian. Weird understanding of democracy.

  20. You say that Georgescu did not meet people in person and used TIK-TOK but you show images of him meeting people in all kinds of places. This is crazy and I did not even vote for Georgescu but all this circus around him is a bit too much. And anyways what is this big bla-bla around meeting people in person ? There is technology today allowing things which were unavailable in the past why not using it ? We can save money and pollute a bit less or pollution does not count this time ? Should candidates only go to public/private televisions so those can manipulate then ? and add their BS comments after every word ? Howcome people did not elect well knows candidates like Ciolacu, Ciuca, Lasconi well covered in the "classical media" to be the first ? Because of Tik-Tok.?   23. All Social Media should be blocked on the last month of run up to any Election. Manual Recounts should Always be carried out to verify All Elections to deter Electronic interference of machines used. This should occur in All Democracies.

  27. We might have the first bot as a president…if not now, for sure next time. If 23% of the people voted for a person they had no idea who he is, than my dog may have a similar chance to become president
