Trump’s victory is an ‘existential wake-up call’ for Europe: Ex-EU commissioner Moscovici

For all the talk of “Trump-proofing” Europe, much remains to be done, and there are now only a few short months before the former president takes office again, following his dramatic comeback and resounding victory in the US election. We speak to Pierre Moscovici, who was European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs during the first Trump presidency. He identifies three major areas where the EU is likely to face headwinds – Ukraine, trade and climate action. Moscovici is now First President of the Court of Auditors, which is the highest body for auditing the use of public funds in France. In that capacity, he addresses the challenge of reducing France’s huge public deficit.

The US has to stay OUT of Europe and let them settle their own problems..close all US bases in UK and possibly Germany..if there is a US base in Europe Poland would be a more suitable allie..plain truth is we do not need to be in Europe..the US military can reach any location on earth very quickly..let Europe take care of itself for once..western Europe is lost..i suggest you learn the Quran..

    They are fed up with the immigration, the trans issue, and the economy.

    Pretty good chance at least two out of three of those things are important to the people who call themselves citizens of your countries

  13. As an American I say Europe should build your own defense and stop totally depending on America to always be the one to deal with all the problems in the world. To be honest, we Americans are tired of being the main force in battles. If Europe wants to continue with this climate nonsense, fine, but we are going to drill baby drill.

  14. Europe, including France,has had 80 years to stand on their own but have squandered this opportunity when the US propped you up. Americans are tired of spoon feeding you. The truth is that Ukraine is WHERE IT IS. That comes with certain realities that cannot be rectified. They are in Russia’s front yard. It was always mad to continue moving Nato east. The logistics of the matter are unresolvable. The US needs to focus on our own business and stop sticking our nose in everyone elses business.

  18. Europe thinks its fine that they have all kinds of tariffs protecting their products, but when Trump wants to level the playing field now he's a radical protectionist, isolationist.

  22. "The global fight against climate change". This man needs to wage this "fight" on his own. I couldn't care less about it as an American, and don't believe that there is a climate emergency at all. I do believe that bureaucrats like this man love being able to appropriate for themselves and their friends the resources, capital, and materials necessary to create national wealth when they force deindustrialization on Western nations. I think that's the real point. It's inverted class warfare – a war by the wealthy on the lower classes.
