Got home from work yesterday to discover that all our heating oil has been stolen. I live with my disabled granny and we had just got £500 worth of oil delivered about 2 weeks ago, only to find that not a drop of it is left! Can’t heat the house, have a shower, wash dishes; absolutely dreadful.
I couldn’t believe people still did this! To take that much they must’ve had a lorry like.

If anyone wanted to donate to help out, I’ve started a GoFundMe, no pressure of course: https://gofund.me/a92a7b7a

  1. Did they drill a hole into your tank? Or just suck it out?

May be worth getting a lock for it in future if the former.

  2. Some people are parasitic pieces of shit. Hope you get something sorted. Do a gofundme.

  3. Clearly this is an organised gang. Report the theft to the police because they probably have other reports and other information that will help them to find the culprits.

  4. The people that do this have absolutely no morals. This is not a victimless crime. People are struggling as it is without these f£&kers adding to the misery.

One can only hope that the oil that they steal in this life is used to stoke the fires they burn on in the next one.

  5. I personally would purchase an Arenti camera off of Amazon which will alert you to movement and does not have a monthly subscription cost like ring cameras.

  6. Disgusting low life. Check with neighbours see anyone has CCTV or doorbell camera that caught something on the street. I’d guess lorry or van used

  7. >To take that much they must’ve had a lorry like.

Nah, they’ll just have a 1000ltr IBC tank in the back of a transit or similar. I’d be asking your neighbours if they have any doorbell cameras and if there was a van parked around the front or back of your house at any stage through the last 24hrs.

  8. Travellers have been doing that for years you need a camera

  9. Surprisingly common, likely siphoned into a few large drums and put in a van.

Then again I had a neighbour who stole my oil, they took 2x 25l jars at a time and over the course of a few nights nearly cleaned me out. (Put a rapid stop to it once I had him caught)

  10. Lowlifes. I know one person who was able to claim on home insurance following oil theft, hope you can do the same.

  11. It’s happened to us before, we got CCTV pointing at the tank now lol

  12. It won’t help escape the cold right now, but if you have home insurance it’s worth contacting them. Oil theft is covered on the vast majority of policies so you might get reimbursed.

  13. This happened to me a good few years ago. Young family 4 kids scraped together the money and got oil so were warm etc. On Xmas eve we came out in the morning and it had all been taken. They broke the pipe at the bottom and had drained it all. As well as letting a lot of it seep into the ground. So no way to get it fixed on Xmas eve and no way to get oil. Luckily we had some older neighbours and they made calls and next minute a fleet of older people started showing up to the door with super sers and heaters of all shapes and sizes. We were warm over Xmas but still angry. Like who the fuck does that on Xmas eve

  14. Where about are you mate?

Make sure you never use that company you bought the heating oil off again – chances are someone in there is passing on the information to the whoever stole it.

  15. Scum bags.

Name the supplier please. As well as the area

  16. Is it worth looking around see what CCTV are on streets leaving the area?

  17. Sorry to hear. But can you also check you’ve not had a leak? It happens sometimes when you add the weight of a new fill into an old tank. (Tanks expand and contract during the seasons and a new fill can just be enough to crack a stressed area of the tank).

I worked in oil spill remediation before, and many many times we call out to one where they thought it was stolen, filled again, and it’s gone again. It can be stolen surely, but just check for leaks or losses too

  18. Don’t know what community you’re from… and genuinely they won’t care… get in touch with SVDP. (Saint Vincent De Paul) in your area. They will sort you some emergency oil.

  19. Please set up a go fund me page, I will be more than happy to help out 👍

  20. I know this is late in the game but can I suggest a doorbell type security camera to prevent in the future? Something off Amazon or ebay at a reasonable price might at least provide evidence to the police. I’m sorry to hear about it the scummy b*st*rds

  21. You should get someone out to check there isn’t a leak, oil could be seeping under the property.

  22. Phone the police and then phone St Vincent de Paul, they’ll help with heating oil.

  23. By the sounds of it this isn’t the same in your case but reminds me of a few years ago where I thought my oil had been robbed. Reported it to the police etc. Left the rental, they tried to sell after I left. Turns out there was a leak obscured by a load of weeds on the other side of the fence. All drained below the garden into a dead corner. Sale fell through because of it

  24. I got a new cap for my tank that could fit a padlock on it. Sure it’s no bother to get through a padlock if you’re determined enough, but I’ve not had any bother since.

  25. that not the only thing they take, seen Missing Heater Units that was bolt down.

  26. One thing that might be worth checking is the line between the tank and the oil burner. We thought someone had stolen oil from my granny’s house too a few years ago but it turned out that the line ruptured and leaked oil everywhere. The whole back garden was contaminated and to be dug up to prevent it seeping into underground waterways or something. The insurance thankfully covered it.

  27. What absolute fuckers, Hope they get karma the bastards. Sorry for this OP . I’m sure you are raging.
