French President Emmanuel Macron has invited all parties except the far-right National Rally and hard-left France Unbowed for talks on forming a new government, his Elysee Palace office said late Monday.
With Macron seeking a replacement for conservative Prime Minister Michel Barnier, ousted last week in a no-confidence vote over a planned austerity budget, the presidency added that the initial talks on “forming or making possible a government of national interest” would begin at 2:00 pm (1300 GMT).
