Early morning temperatures were brisk on Saturday, December 7, but that did not deter 34 enthusiastic volunteers from participating in the quarterly Tigertail Beach clean-up hosted by Friends of Tigertail. 20 MIA students and 14 adults collected 100 pounds of trash. David Ignowski from Cardinal Health was able to forge deeply into the mangroves and collected the most debris. Other groups represented were the MIA Key Club, Friends of Tigertail members, BACRAC, Florida Health Department, and Marco Island Public Works, as well as independent residents who value the beach area. Bottles, cans, food containers, and fishing tackle were the bulk of materials gathered, creating a noticeable improvement in the appearance of the beach. Though construction has started in the park area to improve the facilities, the beach remains open.
Friends of Tigertail hosts four clean-ups annually with the next scheduled for Saturday, March 22, 2025, part of the Collier County and Keep Collier Beautiful Bay Days event.
