Paris’s ‘old lady’: Fun facts about Notre-Dame Cathedral • FRANCE 24 English
Notre-Dame Cathedral is reopening to the public after a devastating fire nearly destroyed it in 2019. Much more than a place of worship or a popular tourist destination, Notre-Dame reflects the heart and soul of the capital and in many ways its history mirrors that of the capital. In this show, Florence Villeminot brings you some fun facts about what Parisians lovingly call “la vieille dame” or “the old lady”.

Im worried that reconstruction was done by the same people who orchestrated the Olympics
You mean our lady.
Merci Beaucoup. Enjoyed those vignettes about Notre Dame .Visited it once before it burned down. On our visit in 2019, a sad view of a burnt structure and scaffolding. Will go back to see it again.
I always wondered how that fire started at that beautiful church
Thank you. 👏
Important Fact.
The English King, Henry VI, was also crowned in Notre Dame, not Rheims, as King of France, inheriting as provided for in the Treaty of Troyes, from his grandfather Charles VI.
He was the only English king crowned there.
You didn't mention the new rooster on the spire.
From LA Times: "The installation by a crane of a new golden rooster, reimagined as a dramatic phoenix with licking, flamed feathers, goes beyond being just a weathervane atop the cathedral spire. It symbolizes resilience amid destruction after the devastating April 2019 fire — as restoration officials also revealed that an anti-fire misting system is being installed under the cathedral’s roof."
The sacred relics were placed in the new sculpture. "Ulrich placed sacred relics in a hole inside the rooster’s breast, including fragments of Christ’s crown of thorns and remains of St. Denis and St. Genevieve, infusing the sculpture with religious importance."
i dont care if it burns down. so many people suffered in that place. and its still preaching suffering and guilt. it should be a museum to a dark past in my opinion.
Love your show…
We need a one hour documentary by Florence Villeminot !
The French Republic is anti Christian and the spirit of the Jacobins and anti clericalist with freemasonic ideology thrown in make the Republic an enemy of ots own people and religion. The government in France confiscated churches and has persecuted Cathooucs and Jews even to such an extent it imports, fosters and turns a blind eye to Islam. The only interest the repuboic has in Notre Dame is in terms of tourism and as a monument. Art lovers curate it as a museum. It is a house of God, sacred place and sanctuary fir prayer and worship. The new altar, font, bishops sedilia and other out of place intrysions are like the opening of the Olympics a provocation, mockery, mischievous cancellation of Christian imagery and symbolism.
Yet NOT a single mention of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Pillar WHO IS the Notre Dame de Paris… not the Building itself. A statue of the Virgin of the Pillar is even on the front of the Cathedral.
I visited Notre Dame in 1985. My bucket list has to revisit the building again before I die. God Willing.
