Twenty PSNI officers injured over a 24-hour period across Northern Ireland – Belfast Live
Twenty PSNI officers have been injured across Northern Ireland over a 24-hour period.
It is reported that from December 13, ten officers were injured in Co Armagh, three in Derry, two in Belfast, four in Co Fermanagh and one in Newry.
Superintendent Rosie Thompson said: “Between Friday evening, 13th December and Saturday morning, 14th December the officers were injured while on duty – some of whom sustained serious injuries that required medical treatment.

“Two officers were injured as a result of a deliberate patrol vehicle ramming in the Concession Road area of Crossmaglen after a white VW Golf attempted to put the patrol car off the road.
“Shockingly, one of the injured officers has been involved in five prior police vehicle rammings.
“This latest report comes after the Police Service revealed a total of 58 police officers have been injured as a result of similar incidents this year.
“Both officers were left extremely shaken by what happened and were unable to remain on duty. The patrol vehicle is now not road worthy – and the suspect vehicle has since been recovered in the South of Ireland with enquiries continuing."
Superintendent Rosie Thompson continued: “An officer is also being treated for a serious thumb injury after being assaulted while responding to a disturbance in the Newry area. He was also kicked by the suspect who has since been charged to appear before court.
“Another Newry-based officer sustained a suspected broken nose and his three colleagues were injured while responding to a domestic-related report in the Mountnorris area of South Armagh.
“These officers were spat at and sustained limb injuries when attempting to effect an arrest.
“Meanwhile, four officers sustained minor injuries across the Craigavon area whilst responding to two separate reports.
“In the Derrygonnelly area of Fermanagh, four officers were injured after a man became aggressive while being placed into a call van.”
Superintendent Thompson added: “Meanwhile, in Derry/Londonderry three officers were assaulted after stopping a man who was suspected of being involved in a previous assault.
“While being arrested he violently kicked out at the officers – injuring them to their chest, chin and lower body.
“In the north Belfast area, officers were responding to a report of an assault at licensed premises when the suspect lunged towards an officer in an attempt to head-butt him – he also shouted offensive language.
“Officers were responding to a domestic-related report in the west Belfast area when an officer was struck to his chest.
“We will investigate these shameful and unacceptable attacks rigorously. These are just some of the examples to highlight the risks our officers face every day.
“Our officers are here to help, and respond to calls assisting people, keeping them safe.
“Assaults on police are unacceptable, and must not be tolerated as simply being ‘part of the job’.”

Bring back the B-Specials
But police assaults on subdued teenagers are absolutely fine
oh well
Not surprised, this time of year seems to bring all the melters out in full force.
‘Tis the season.
Do the PSNI think the general public are going to go round hugging them? You know when you sign up that you’re dealing with scumbags who don’t want to be arrested, so they shouldn’t really be shocked.
Hell slap it into them.
Stubbed toes?
All I know is I don’t get paid if I get a slap
Kicking each other in the head for claims ti’s the season 🤣
Just in time for a sickie over Christmas
Nobody cares yawn how about that wee lad that was booted in the head the other day whilst restrained and lying flat down on the ground. Assholes
Edit: too soon ya pricks
5 prior rammings probably making double his salary in whiplash claims alone 😂
Medical retirement and claims incoming.
I know someone who used to be in the RUC – and then PSNI – who said that it was well known that some officers actually tried to get injured – especially during riots. They’d expose an arm and bingo; claim and future medical retirement.
All jokes aside, we need to have a genuine conversation about the standard of officer we are recruiting, and, arguably more importantly, promoting.
A Criminology lecturer at Queen’s was hired by the PSNI to survey their training and he said the PSNI’s recruitment was the worst he’d seen in all of Europe. His first criticism was the amount of nepotism, with underperforming applicants twho’s parents were former officers seemingly fast-tracked not only to officers but further promotions.
His next criticism was that the PSNI were hiring sales assistants. Managers at Sainsbury’s. People who had experience dealing with the angry general public. After that it was made up of Malone hires, lads on the rugby team who get their mates a job followed by unnecessarily strict diversity instructions. He finished his survey by surmising that every 1 in 10 successful applicants has the making of a good police officer.
This lines up with family members of several high profile homicide victims since 2020 voicing deeply negative opinions of their dealings with the PSNI. Honestly, I don’t think these officers have the ability to deal with these situations.
One man in Derry injured 3 cops while being arrested, was it Bruce Lee or what?
How much training do they have in physical restraint.
I have seen some shocking videos of PSNI & police getting thumped and not being able to get handcuffs on people. Surely there has to be tactics taught to them?
Sure they had it handy at twaddell for years bumping up OT.
Look forward to the day when cops go the way of priests because young people aren’t interested.
I’m curious about whether this has hit the news because there’s been a significant spike in in injuries to cops lately or is an utterly tactless attempt to distract from the other recent story about police violence against a child.
