Roze Stiebra was a director, scriptwriter, and producer who, together with her husband Ansis Bērziņš, created two-dimensional animation in Latvia. In 1960-1964 she received training as a puppet theatre actress in Leningrad (now St Petersburg, Russia), and in 1969 she made her first animated film using the application technique, according to the National Film Centre website.
She has made more than 60 films.
She has received the Latvian Culture Foundation Award “for the creation of professional animation cinema in Latvia, for the development of human values, compassion and empathy in the minds of children”.
In 1995, Stiebra received the Spīdolas Award for her contribution to Latvian animation cinema. In 2003 she was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, IV class. In 2017 she received the “Lielais Kristaps” cinema award for lifetime contribution.
