The incoming US President has again claimed ownership of the giant frozen land as he said having it was an “absolute necessity” for America

Denmark is boosting defence spending for Greenland after Donald Trump repeated his desire to buy it.

Danish ministers said the package was a “double digit billion amount” in the country’s currency krone, which works out at least £1.2billion. They described the timing of the announcement as an “irony of fate”.

But the move came just hours after the orange manbaby claimed ownership and control of the huge island was an “absolute necessity” for the US.

The Arctic territory is home to a large US space facility, is strategically important for the US and has major mineral reserves.

With fears of another World War continuing to escalate, many in the world are wondering where they may be able to find a safe haven should Russia decide to stop making threats about nuclear warfare and actually decide to fire off a missile. Denmark said the package would allow for the purchase of two new inspection ships, two new long-range drones and two extra dog sled teams.

Greenland’s prime minister Mute Egede responded to Trump’s comments, saying: “We are not for sale”. But he said the country is open for cooperation and trade.

Army Maj Steen Kjaergaard, of the Danish Defence Academy, suggests the increased military spending may have been president-elect Trump’s intention all along.

He said: “It is likely to be sparked by the renewed Trump focus on the need for air and maritime control around Greenland. I think Trump is smart.

“He gets Denmark to prioritise its Arctic military capabilities by raising this voice, without having to take over a very un-American welfare system.”

There appears to be no limits when it comes to the demands of Donald Trump.

Not content with throwing his toys out the pram at seemingly any opportunity, he’s now returned to wanting more territory.

The orange manbaby is calling for the US to buy Greenland when he goes back into the White House.

This is not normal behaviour you’d expect from the supposed leader of the free world.

Yet it’s just another twist in the chaos that everyone has come to expect from the president-elect.

Denmark has now responded by boosting its defence spending.

If his current behaviour is anything to go by, the world is in for a whirlwind of a time when Trump returns to power next year.

We’d all better buckle up.
