Large swathes of England were just as bad.
Up to 1982 many took the escape path of going to Australia.
Same everywhere years ago, In China’s 1980s anyone with a push bike or donkey we’re doing well for themselves. Today it’s probably world’s main superpower.
A simple case of good public policy, reducing the wealth divide, enterprise programs, innovation and manufacturing, physical exports and a motivation for citizens to pull their pants up. If anything, they went too far.
That was a good watch thanks for sharing.
Feel blessed to be born when I am, everything looks so gloomy and rundown back then. A coin operated TV, with only a few channels to choose from. Living in cramped, run down houses with a wife and lots of children. I think I would have to become a raging alcoholic to deal with the tedium and the stress of it all.
Watching it reminded me of the stories my folks used to tell me of them sharing tiny box rooms with their many siblings. It sounded idyllic in some ways, to have so much company but when you actually see footage of the era it’s really depressing.
