Let them leave. We need weak links out of the party. Now is not a time for purity testing an infighting. How can you turn your back on the party at a time of American oligarchs trying to buy our government?
Aww must be rough for them. It’s become obvious American gravy won’t drip down to them while in the Labour Party.
Tangent but trying to read that website gave me a hernia
Labour does appear to be trying pretty hard to alienate it’s traditional left wing base. I’m sure their strategists would tell me they’re hoping to attract disaffected Tory voters but, as the last election demonstrated, that really doesn’t amount to many votes as most of those voters will never see labour as sufficiently right wing for their tastes, certainly not enough for them to stick with them long term. Currently the left doesn’t really have anywhere else to go, but as the two main parties stranglehold on electoral success gradually weakens I think we’re likely to see more and more left wingers defect to parties like the greens and the one being proposed by Corbyn, and labour may well find itself with no firm base to rely on, deserted by everyone slightly left or right of centre.
I think McSweeneys strategy might have worked 15-20 years ago, but after decades of neoliberalism and the consequent rise in populism at both ends of the political spectrum, Starmers oh so sensible ‘business as usual’ status quo-ery is looking increasingly less appealing to an electorate hungry for real change. Not-being-the-Tories will only get you so far….
At this point I’m not sure what the left want to destroy more. The country or the Labour Party.
Greg Marshall complained that he wasn’t allowed to stand as a candidate in last year’s election. Which was almost certainly because he stood as a candidate in 2017 and 2019 and lost both times. These people are selfish and arrogant – and worse: they’re so stupid and politically inept that they lack the skills to understand how profoundly stupid and politically inept they really are.
Can’t read the article and no way am I subscribing, but the opening blurb says they are leaving because of the “party’s position on Gaza, Waspi and the Winter Fuel Payment.” Gaza is low on the priority of virtually everyone in this country atm, waspi is a group of women who don’t like that they finally have to work just as long as men and the winter fuel payment is being means tested now as it always should have been
