Are these type of slabs in Portadown designed to have no grip whatsoever?

  1. They’re designed to be kind on the feet for those residents of Portadown with webbed feet and six toes

  2. It’s the same in Belfast, there is absolutely no logic behind these things

  3. Gifted by the good people of Banbridge when they got an upgrade

  4. Oh boy! I remember when these were installed in Warrenpoint few years back. Deadly. Like sheets of glass when it frosted over.

  5. armagh is the same….council hadn’t been gritting them at one point, so shops were putting out there own salt grit but they stopped as told they could be liable if their grit/salt was a factor in anyone falling! 🤷‍♂️

  6. There’s a big stretch of these on the Falls outside Milltown Cemetery. When it’s frozen you might has well save some time and throw yourself into an open plot. Pure lethal.

  7. Fucking disaster in Armagh town as well many people have actually slipped on them but the council doesn’t give a shit.

  8. Well looks like it was cardiff cities’ old slabs from 10 years ago wonder where theyll end up next….![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

  9. These things are everywhere, and manage to be both sticky and slippery at the same time when it’s wet

  10. You’re supposed to wait a few years til they are covered in chewing gum. Then you have plenty of grip and minty fresh trainers.

  11. Try Tenirife when it’s lashing down lol. The Wslk from Adeje to the Playa be as well getting a sledge.

  12. I’m not in NI, but my town (in Hampshire, if it helps) had them. They ended up sandblasting them to create grip.

Chances are they were installed by a contractor, who decided to cut costs and put in the cheapest stuff they could get (and who cares about public safety).

  13. Its the same on the andytown road in belfast i have noticed many an old biddie nearly go down after coming out of 10 o clock mass they are terrible

  14. This is exactly what me and my friend have been talking about. We need more grippy tiles everywhere!

  15. The slabs outside Belfast City Hall are the same, they’re like an ice rink when it rains

  16. It’s granite from China, part of the big public realm scheme many towns have upgraded to. Previous job I had, we had to lift and replace many, very expensive to replace and about 6 inches depth. The roads service are supposed to hold a supply in place for replacement but they’re all gone, have to get them shipped directly, and yes, very slippery.

  17. I was in Lisbon for new years and they’ve small tiles on the footpath and as soon as it rains, might as well be walking on glass

  18. Same in the Square in Newtownards. Things a death trap in the winter..
