Anyone know what kind of birds these are? Seen along Lagan towpath.

I have a photo of it too! Near Shaws Bridge. I think it’s a cormorant, although you normally see them on the coast.

  2. Great cormorant (*Phalacrocorax carbo*)! Though they’re typically a coastal bird, a population of them have taken residence in the Lagan in the past few years.

  3. Oh that’s so cool!!!! Biggest bird locally I’ve seen is an odd heron, seeing cormorants would be class!

  4. Yeah cormorant I think, looks very similar to a shag but shags have a wee tuft on their head and not as streamlined a beak and cormorants are bigger

  5. It’s a Cormorant, they are sea birds and should not be inland. They are a scourge of all the rivers in the country at the moment, hoovering up huge amounts of fish and decimating populations.

  6. If there’s a lake nearby, it’ll soon be bereft of fish life.

  7. That river will be decimated of its fish, circle of life I suppose lol
