Franks weren’t ‘basically’ proto-dutch, they were germans and most likely invaded Gaule with socks and sandales.
Proto-dutch, are conservative Franks that refuse to embrace civilisation, culture and *savoir vivre*, like washing their hand after going to the bathroom, that the Franks encountered once they conquered the roman kingdom of Soisson.
So yes Proto-Dutch were Franks, but most Franks had too much self esteem to end up like that.

We taught them a proper language, how to hold a fork, even to wash their hands after dinner. It doesn’t work. It’s all so futile.
That’s nothing. Our first kings were basically French.
