PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A data breach is affecting staff at school districts in the metro region.

The breach happened at Tigard-based Carruth Compliance Consulting. They handle retirement savings plans for many Oregon school districts and other nonprofits.

According to a notice from the company, an investigation found unauthorized access to their systems in December where files had been copied.

Compromised details could include name, Social Security number, driver’s license and financial account information.

The company says they have notified the FBI of the breach and are taking steps to mitigate the impact.

So far, the Parkrose and Beaverton school districts say that the information of their employees and former employees is among those compromised.

They say more districts have also been affected.

If you are affected, they recommend monitoring your accounts and taking steps to protect your identity. In its notice, Carruth provided information on what you can do.
