Latvia does not achieve its energy and climate goals and risks being sanctioned by the EU, BaltNews writes with reference to the results of the State Control audit.
The auditors identified as the main reasons: the lack of a long-term strategy in Latvia to achieve the goals set; lack of funding; duplication of functions and tasks of the parties involved; insufficient participation of state-owned companies in achieving the plan.
Failure to achieve the goals of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) by 2030 may result in sanctions from the EU.
