Former Thomas’ boss Kenneth Burke

St Thomas’, last year’s All-Ireland club SHC champions, look set to unveil Cathal Daly as their new manager for 2025 with Trevor Fletcher to assist the Galway club as coach.

Kenneth Burke stepped down as manager in November having guided them to a hat-trick of Galway SHC titles, as well as that famous All-Ireland success last January, and Daly’s appointment ensures continuity having been part of that successful management team.

Daly, who was also involved under previous St Thomas’ boss Kevin Lally, was part of Burke’s Galway minor management team this year and he brings a wealth of experience to the table for his native club.

Fletcher’s involvement is also seen as a feather in St Thomas’ cap given his success in recent seasons having managed Shinrone to a first Offaly SHC title in 2022 before making a foray into county management as a coach under Down supremo Ronan Sheehan.

The Tipperary native juggled that with his role as joint-manager of Lisdowney, alongside former Roscrea team-mate John Carroll, as they secured the Kilkenny intermediate title last year and he looks set to do something similar this year while balancing Down and St Thomas’.

Interestingly, Fletcher was part of the first Kilcormac-Killoughey side to land an Offaly SHC title in 2012 before his adopted club were thwarted in the 2013 All-Ireland club decider by none other than St Thomas’, when he scored 1-1 from play as 13-man K/K fell by two points.
