This was my first spice bag, absolutely nothing like what I've seen in those "influencer" videos of places across NI. Very oily and not great. Anyone got any recommendations for class spice bags?

  1. If you eat it while talking in a north down accent it tastes a lot better.

  2. Summer Inn in the liberties and Charlie’s on Westmoreland Street both do class spice bags in Dublin

  3. Camille Thai is the only place I’ve had a decent spice bag from up here. But even that has declined in quality over the past couple of years. I would rather get some salt and chilli chips and S&C chicken and mix it up myself

  4. I highly doubt there’s a single spice bag in the north that compares to any of the south’s delicacies. yet another horrible consequence of partition

  5. Belfast and NI overall hasn’t really caught up on the spice bag game, over the border is where you’ll get a decent one tbh

  6. Just order salt & chilli chicken, some salt & chilli chips and a portion of curry sauce. Put it all on your plate. Aka spice bag.

  7. Dublin all day long is the only way. Our Chinese is better but I have a soft spot for a spice bag. Any up here have been shite.

  8. The grateful bread in the American bar have spicebags on the menu sometimes but they change round their menu monthly.

  9. I had a supposedly “proper” spice bag in Dublin in about 2019 when I had to stay down there for about a week (shudder).

I do not get the fuss about them, they’re literally just salt & chilli chips in a bag. You don’t even get curry with it, I just don’t understand what’s supposed to be special about them and why they became such an institution in the South.

  10. Looks like when I’ve left something in the air fryer I forgot about for a week.

The sauce looks good though, is it Curry and is it sweet. I’m partial to a sweet curry! Suggestions welcome. I love Johnny Longs curry and Rafos 🤤
