Remains of Filipina killed in Slovenia arriving

The remains of 27-year-old Marvil Facturan are set to be repatriated this week, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Facturan died on 29 December in Bled, Slovenia, after allegedly being stabbed by her husband, Mitja Kocjančič, during a holiday. Reports indicated she was killed following a heated argument between the couple.

According to DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, Facturan’s remains are scheduled to arrive on Saturday, 25 January. Her body will be brought directly to Dumaguete, where her family resides.

“The remains will arrive in Cebu and then will be transported to Dumaguete via a roll-on/roll-off ferry,” De Vega said in a televised interview.

He added that Facturan’s family will receive financial assistance while the investigation is ongoing.

“There’s only one suspect, so this investigation will likely proceed quickly,” he said.

Kocjančič, a motivational speaker on mental health and obesity awareness, met Facturan online in February last year.

He visited the Philippines in July and the couple married the same month. Facturan followed her new husband to Slovenia on 22 December, just days before she was killed.
