Iceland wants us pumping iron in the supermarket. No excuses. (Picture: Iceland)

No time for the gym because you’ve got to get the weekly shop? Iceland Foods has the answer – train with a trolley.

The supermarket says its 25kg shopping sled will make walking the aisles a workout.

And for a lighter routine, try 15kg hand baskets to use as dumbbells.
While it may seem like April 1 has come early, Iceland say they’ve put the heavy lifting into their research.

A study by the group found almost half of us are worried about our fitness and a third wish we had more time for exercise.

‘Listening to shopper feedback, it’s something that could change the way we shop forever,’ said Iceland Food’s Paul Dhaliwal.

The thing is… While the dumbbell baskets could do more harm than good (if your basket is already filled to the brim), the shopping sled could in theory make light-work of your work-out.

So, is this a brilliant idea that’ll have us all pumping iron in the supermarket or simply too silly? Vote in the poll below to have your say.

Brilliant or bonkers?
