No. 1 Oklahoma beat No. 10 Alabama 197.550-196.300 Friday night in Tuscaloosa.
The Sooners (8-0, 2-0 SEC) defeated the Crimson Tide (1-2, 0-2 SEC) to remain undefeated in early conference play as senior Jordan Bowers led the team to the win.

To start out on vault, freshman Lily Pederson led the Sooners with a strong 9.875. A 9.95 from Faith Torrez gave Oklahoma the edge over Alabama in vault, winning the event 49.300-49.075.

The battle was close on bars, but the Sooners came out on top with a 49.275 due to leading efforts of a 9.950 score from Jordan Bowers. Oklahoma’s Faith Torrez tied with Alabama gymnast Gabby Gladie with a score of 9.950 for the event. Even with a strong output from Gabby, Alabama could not keep up with Oklahoma as it won balance beam with a score of 49.575-49.200.
Oklahoma took the win in floor 49.400-48.875. Behind Jordan Bowers and her 9.950 score on the event, the Sooners were able to win three rounds straight against the Crimson Tide.
With this win against not only an SEC team, but also a top 10 ranking team in the country, Oklahoma proved that it can compete in its new conference. OU will face Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 13 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
