Already the most heavily subsidised and least used line in the country. I absolutely want it protected but no politician should be asking for improved service unless they’re willing to propose significant housing sites along the line (which none will).
Yeah we live next to this line – the number of empty trains going by is nuts. I think it’s in a bit of a vicious circle where the service is shit, so nobody uses it and hence no investment. Would imagine it’s difficult to prove that more investment would lead to higher usage. Faces the same problem all rural lines have – it’s just much simpler & more reliable to drive everywhere.
It’s one of the most beautiful train rides in Wales, I think they should push it more to tourists

Without any infrastructure changes you could run a 2hourly service the whole way along the line, there is stock available just need more crew.
And with some line speed improvements or loop extensions between Knighton and Llandrindod you could run an hourly service down the whole line
If the service was that regular, more people would use it especially at each end of the line
The A40/A483 runs parallel to the line for most of it, and that’s not a quiet road. People in the area want and need to travel but the train is not a viable option
