I am posting this to put some contrast to the ones with 500+ applications.
Two years ago in my Bachelor’s degree I participated in a project with a company for one semester. At the end, they asked if I wanted to write my bachelor thesis there, what I accepted. Worked there 20 hours per week afterwards while I did my Master degree. Currently while finishing my thesis, they offered me a position I was very satisfied with. Had no other applications although I was looking around a bit.
You were lucky. The job market for CS is completely different now.
There must be a rule if you’re any type of engineer looking for a job, you have to log your interviews and post them as a sankey diagram to this sub lol

That’s kinda how I’d expected it to work when I graduated. I’d never been turned down from anything, not because I’m particularly brilliant but because most graduate programmes are not that competitive, or teaching assistant positions, or summer jobs.
So after graduation I carefully wrote a cover letter and CV, and applied for a job. I didn’t apply for any others because what would I tell the other job if I got offered one? It didn’t work out quite as smoothly as this chart for me.

I love this for three reasons. I’m happy for you. It’s a great joke on all the complex ones. It is beautiful data.
Why not do 4 interviews and use them as leverage to secure additional benefits and pay?
They clearly wanted you.

You guys, it’s time to start putting these things over in r/dataisbeautifuljerk. This is getting out of hand.
I don’t have a cool sankey diagram, but after being laid off I applied to 8 data science jobs, interviewed with 3, got 2 offers, accepted 1. Was only unemployed for 1 month.
This reminds me of my cousin’s husband. He is 53 reasonably successful and has never been on a job interview in his life.
In high school he worked for his dad’s business, went to college and worked summers and holidays for his dad. After school he worked with his brother in law and did some work for himself on the side. Worked as a ski instructor, but got the job because the owners of the lodge knew him and just hired him. He now works for himself.
My experience as a CS person was similar.
I applied to 3 jobs as a senior in college. Two of them had 1 interview each. One (AWS) had 1 group + 3 coding interviews in-person. Got 2 job offers, accepted 1 (rejected AWS – they were pissed!)
After that, I applied to 0 jobs but got offers at 2 startups, 1 interview each. Haven’t made a resume or cover letter in more than a decade.
It’s easy to get demoralized by the people that are struggling to get jobs in tech. It’s nuts out there. But new grads are still getting offers with $200k+ salaried and more than that in bonuses/RSUs
Masters degree in CS and still needed a web app to make this? 😉
