  1. Thames Water customers have been told that their bills will increase from April by an average of £19 per month.

In an email sent to customers, the water company said: “On average, our bills for typical water and wastewater customers (without meters) will increase by £19 per month in 2025-26.

“Remember, your bill change could be higher or lower based on the rateable value of your property.”

It comes as the [water company ](https://inews.co.uk/topic/water-company?ico=in-line_link)that [polluted Lake Windermere ](https://inews.co.uk/news/sewage-dumping-national-parks-water-laws-labour-3504091?ico=most_popular&srsltid=AfmBOoqgGLzEzphIbwGZsWfPcEwd5Etq1QgC-UXr4s7WKontG1pmf4F8)with [sewage ](https://inews.co.uk/topic/sewage?ico=in-line_link)has raised bills by 32 per cent.

[United Utilities ](https://inews.co.uk/news/united-utilities-responsible-for-quarter-of-30000-sewer-collapses-in-six-years-3232801?srsltid=AfmBOoqPst3fn3IYi-BikRxTIlqh9kh5RBaYyEe-6qUhAameFBsZFo_P&ico=in-line_link)– which serves around seven million customers in the North West of England – has confirmed the bill rise over the next five years.

[South West Water](https://inews.co.uk/news/water-bosses-raw-sewage-devon-sea-2850805?ico=in-line_link), owned by Pennon, will also increase bills by 23 per cent to its 1.8 million customers across Devon, Cornwall and part of Dorset and Somerset.

Both companies have confirmed that dividends to shareholders will be raised in line with inflation.

*The i Paper* revealed earlier this month that United Utilities has been releasing treated sewage into a stream connected to [Lake Windermere](https://inews.co.uk/news/water-firm-sewage-windermere-permit-1989-3472983?ico=in-line_link) using a permit that has not been updated in more than 30 years.

The water firm said it is operating in line with its environmental permit but campaigners say the “primitive” treatment methods at the [Lake District](https://inews.co.uk/topic/lake-district?srsltid=AfmBOooqK8Dxwux255X2yF1JvwHfWXzgeGZXwovDaH8pIizMoT9fKf0C&ico=in-line_link)‘s iconic site mean the wastewater is still harmful to the environment.

It comes after United Utilities was accused of dumping [millions of litres of raw sewage](https://inews.co.uk/news/environment-agency-failed-windermere-illegal-sewage-pollution-3057913?ico=in-line_link) into Lake Windermere in May last year, sometimes without full oversight from the [Environment Agency ](https://inews.co.uk/topic/environment-agency?ico=in-line_link)(EA).

Locals will be forced to pay higher water bills, which United Utilities said will raise £13m to invest in infrastructure across the North West.

CEO Louise Beardmore said the total was the “largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in over 100 years”.

  2. I guess the bosses have to keep their insane wages and bonuses rolling in…👍

  3. Don’t we have the fucking highest water bills in the fucking country on the south west coast ffs 😳 and now they want MORE fucking money out of us 🖕 fuck off south west water 🖕

  4. Imagine, a firm that has paid out endless dividends over the years to be shit at their service. Then ask the customers to go to the proverbial well again & find more money.
    & we meekly accept it.
    Unreal. 😂😂😂

  5. We already paid for the work that they didn’t do in the last decade.

Instead they gave the cash to their shareholders and now are asking us to pay more for these essential works?

How about they fuck off bunch of utter greedy cunts

  6. I think I might cancel my direct debit when my letter comes through (I am serviced/shafted by Essex and Suffolk water). Pop the money in my savings and let them chase me for it – a tiny bit of excitement for my money. Wish me luck.

  7. I’m just tired of all the price rises and taxes.. Honestly it’s just getting too much.

  8. Vital resources should be nationalized.

Private business has proven they will let people die before sacrificing profits.

  9. Nationalise these jokers, don’t pay them much for it though.

  10. Yet no protests no big complaints nothing from MPs too.

  11. So an extra £19 a month for them to close roads and generally piss commuters off. Great.
