You know how some members of the royal family are “working royals” and some are “non-working royals”? The difference is pretty simple: Working royals go to events and engagements on behalf of the royal family and are basically the faces of their “brand.” They also get paid through The Sovereign Grant—a pool of money used for royal expenses like security and staff.

Right now, the list of working royals includes King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Edward, Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne. But with King Charles undergoing cancer treatment, Kate Middleton easing up on royal engagements, and Princess Anne nearing age 75, apparently Charles might consider bringing his nieces Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice into the fold.

As royal expert Katie Nicholl put it to The Sun, “When you look at Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, they’ve been very much encouraged to go and live independent lives of the royal family, to earn their own living, not to be dependent on taxpayer-funded security, not to be a drain, I suppose, on the public purse. So it would be a step in a different direction.”

She added, “I think possibly it is being looked at. I mean, Princess Beatrice was there on Christmas Day, that was a sort of very visible presence for her. They’re sort of welcoming her back into the royal fold. I know that both Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are keen to do some royal work around their jobs and their home lives.”

No word from the royals on if Beatrice (who just gave birth to her second child, FYI) and Eugenie might join the family business, but stay tuned.
