I bet we have all been thinking about what the Dortmund sporting department has been doing for the past couple of weeks, instead of gouging our own eyes out of course. In recent weeks, we’ve been following along on the sidelines as Lars Ricken has desperately tried to put out the dumpster fire that is BVB’s department of sports. He has seemingly already fired Mislintat, and he has given an ultimatum to Matthias Sammer regarding him dual jobbing as an external advisor for The Black and Yellows and as well as doing punditry. With Niko Kovac in place as the head coach to follow Nuri Sahin, it finally seems like there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
Kovac has given green light for Rayan Cherki
With only two days left of the transfer window, BVB will need to start making some moves if the squad is to be improved, and it finally seems like some deals are coming through right at the dead. A transfer target of this summer, Rayan Cherki, has been linked with Dortmund, and Kovac has seemingly already given the green light for the technically gifted Frenchman.
Niko Kovac has given the green light for the signing of Rayan Cherki! Kovac has given his approval and sees Cherki as a technically gifted player with high quality.
Despite the failed transfer in the summer, the Frenchman is still keen to join Dortmund.

It feels like Cherki has been around forever, and that kinda makes sense, as he made his debut in Lyon at only 16 years old. Cherki is known as an absolute world class talent. He is probably one of the most technically gifted players of his age in the world, which shows in both his dribbling and passing abilities. He also has an eye for a goal, and from what I can read on the Lyon forums, he doesn’t really have a weak foot, much like Ousmane Dembélé. In the summer, Sahin vetoed against a transfer of Cherki, due to him being known for having attitude problems in the past. Whether he has gotten rid of those remains to be seen, but I feel like a tough coach like Kovac can be a decent fit for such a character. No matter what, Cherki brings a level of technicality and flair to the team that hasn’t really been present in recent years.
Dortmund in for a loan of 22-year old Daniel Svensson
This one sorta came out of the blue today. It isn’t a secret at this point, that Dortmund are looking for reinforcements at the left back position, but we haven’t really heard anything in regards to who has been on the shortlist of Kehl and co. Now it looks like something might finally happen, and the player in question is the 22-year old Swede, Daniel Svensson from FC Nordsjælland. BVB are looking for an initial loan with an option to buy.
The 22-year-old left-back from FC Nordsjaelland is set to arrive on loan + option to buy. An agreement in principle has been reached with Svensson, who still has a valid contract until 2026. The player is now waiting for the green light to fly to Germany.

FC Nordsjælland is notoriously known as Denmark’s number one talent factory, and in recent years, they have produced players such as Mohammed Kudus, Mikkel Damsgaard, Ibrahim Osman, Conrad Harder among others. If anyone remembers Emre Mor, he was also a product of the Nordsjælland academy. Nordsjælland has had a rise in Denmark that’s comparable to Stuttgart, and they are now an integral part of the top half of the table in the Danish Superliga. In comparison to Bensebaini, Svensson is a player that is known for wanting to take on his man and driving the ball forward, and his defensive abilities aren’t quite bad either. In him, Dortmund would receive a well-rounded profile that has the potential to become a start in the future. Reports have suggested that the option to buy should be around 10 million euros, which I believe is actually a pretty good deal, should Svensson continue to show good performances in Dortmund.
