  1. Here we see the hypocrisy of thinking it’s ok for some people to work for sub-human wage but not others.

  2. I wonder if the main street media is proud of the way they sane washed this asshat for the last four years

  3. CAN? The sign should say “MUST” if we deport our workers to countries that don’t want to increase trade cause they are upset that we handed them an immigration mess.

  4. The underlying issue here is that these people and us as Americans created this situation. Cheap produce comes at a cost, and utilizing cheap labor and exploiting these people’s positions in life created something that probably wasn’t great either.

  5. Here’s what I think will happen. ICE will incarcerate these migrant workers, then the prison will rent them out making $1 an hour to the farms to do the work they would have done anyway since no one else will. The incarceration costs will be paid by the public and the profits will be split between the farmers and the prisons, most going to the prisons.

  6. Yah this is also why Dems didn’t want to get rid of slavery.

  7. Maybe a system wholly reliant on $5/hr manual labor often in harsh conditions deserves to be radically dismantled.

  8. Oh come on, get with the program. They are already gearing up to lease prisoners/slaves to do this work in those states. Heck, some states are even getting ready to start imprisoning illegal immigrants and having them work on these farms as prison labor.

  9. I heard they’re really excited to whip out the ol bootstraps.

  10. Unfortunately automation and AI will pick up the slack pretty easily.

  11. I live in Indiana and have never seen anyone handpick anything.

  12. A solution they will propose is to bring workers from middle & elementary schools.

  13. So no more complaints about illegals taking American jobs.

  14. What’ll happen is the agriculture will move to South/Central America like the avocado industry did in the first trump administration.

  15. Bravo
.. I still don’t understand why employers aren’t sanctioned for hiring them. That would solve the problem quickly

  16. I’ll give tRump this much, the system is badly flawed if it depends heavily on cheap labor from illegal immigrants. However, the answer is not to deport the labor, that’s the worst way to handle it. It would be far better to offer a path toward citizenship.

We should also be going after employers taking advantage of cheap immigrant labor. That would be a far more effective way to slow down the number of people crossing illegally, no reason to come if nobody’s hiring.

  17. Have you seen the produce pricing at your local supermarket recently? I would definitely pick my own produce and get paid for doing it. The problem comes when I have to pick YOUR produce for $5/hr.

I’d probably get pretty tired of eating out of one local field too. I sure wouldn’t be driving to Maine for potatoes and Georgia for peaches and Washington for blackberries.

  18. Most agriculture jobs are piece rate, not hourly. You get paid by the box or bucket of fruit or vegetables picked. They get a special exemption courtesy of the Ag Lobby.

  19. $5 an hour? How is it different from slave labour?

  20. Brawndo baby! It’s what they crave!

  21. Trump’s probably going to desperately try to bring back slavery as a result of this by trying to revoke the 13th amendment. Since we live in a fucked up timeline, he’ll somehow be successful at doing so and then this country is totally fucked

  22. I used to work in the fields. I was the only white person. It is hard back breaking work for very little pay. Sun up to sun down.No toilet, no cool place to take a break, no place to eat or time to go get food ( bring a Tabasco sandwich). They can make money on the stock exchange and get richer if they put immigrants in prisons where they can use them as slave labor. It isn’t illegal to do this in America. I think that was their plan all along. We get food and they get a metal bed for the rest of their lives. This is what people voted for. It’s a perfect plan for the rich.

  23. Wait… they are admitting to violating the federal minimum wage? I appreciate the message but are they also admitting that the status quo was to treat farm workers as slaves?

  24. Why are they paying below minimum wage?

We are advocating a system where our good are cheap based off the illegal exploitation of foreign workers?

  25. If you lose your home, you can be arrested and forced to work potatoes for $0.10 an hour in Idaho.

They can legally keep you that way until you are too old to be useful, then toss you out in the cold.
