I’ve begun working on this hand-drawn map of Great Britain and Ireland, and I wanted to ask for some suggestions as to what fun Easter Egg illustrations I could include around the map. I have some in mind already, but would love to hear any suggestions you’d like to offer!
I’ve attached an image from some of my recent work to give a feel for the scale and style.
I think Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobollllantisiliogogogoch needs to be marked on the map, maybe draw the famous sign for it in it’s location
Brecon cathedral has a very distinctive font design that would gel with your style I think.
Jacobs ladder in devil’s bridge is pretty cool too as is the story of smugglers cave.
The famous bridge in Pontypridd.
Or some Swansea junkies shooting up.
Tiny giant (🙈) over the Giant’s Bite?
Craig na dunn (is it a real place?)
Most of the places like Llanfair pwll Gwyn goch and beddgelert were made up for tourism so doubt it makes a difference if it’s fictional 🤣
Ifor the engine at the top left hand corner of wales
-Mari Lwyd hiding in somewhere. -Mustard gas Factory, Rhydymwyn. -Obviously snowdonia. -A dragon -Dyffryn Hill Celtic Fort -Smugglers Cove. -Twr Mawr lighthouse, Anglesey. -Mach loop, maybe a fighter jet flying through snowdonia
Around Peterborough put a turd 💩
Cadair Idris. It’s the best mountain in Wales and it’s name means the chair of Idris, a mythical giant.
Surely it has to be…
Eglwyswrw
Bryn Celli Ddu
Pentre Ifan
South stack
Trwyn Du lighthouse
Clock towers in Bangor, and Machynlleth
Aberaeron coloured terraces
Gold at Dolaucothi
Carreg Cennen castle
St Non’s Chapel
Clock tower in Roath Park
Cyfarthfa Castle (with a massive thundercloud over it)
Big Pit,
Guardian of the Valley,
Transporter Bridge Newport
Gonna name a few things from home which is North Wales.
The Mach Loop where the military practise low level flight manoeuvres.
Yr Wyddfa (Mt Snowdon), said to be the grave of the giant Rhita Gawr.
Llandudno’s great Orme was named by the Vikings and said to look like a dragon staring out to sea.
Llandudno is also where Alice in Wonderland was written.
Dinas Emrys is where the Red Dragon of Wales and White Dragon of England are locked in eternal battle under the hill.
Worth adding Conwy castle, Harlech Castle (the site of the longest siege in British history (6 years)).
Offas Dyke was an Anglo Saxon fortification built along the border of Wales and England.
Portmeirion.
Anglesea was known as the breadbasket of Wales, it was also the location of the most holy site in the World for the druids and the Celtic Pagan religion.
Bude tunnel.
For all its glory, so few know of this mystical enchanting place.
Love the stuff in Sweden!
If you want something similar, I’d suggest going for quirkier local stuff, like the giant knitted cardigan in Cardigan, Mr Urdd in Llangrannog and so on.
Worms head
Llareggub somewhere on the coast?
The Transporter Bridge Newport, and small boats near places like Tenby
