Mediahuis Ireland’s winning covers
Mediahuis Ireland has received nine Awards of Excellence across several categories in the European Newspaper Awards.
Review was recognised for its front cover “Into the depths”, which featured author John Boyne.
The Irish Independent picked up an award for its front-page treatment of boxer Kellie Harrington’s historic gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Weekend Magazine received three awards in the Supplement category: for “Behind The Mask”, an edition that focused on mascots; for “A history of Ireland in 100 Paddys”, last year’s St Patrick’s Day issue; and the third was awarded for “Oh sister, where art thou?”, which featured interviews with some of Ireland’s youngest nuns about life in an enclosed order.
In the Portrait category, Life Magazine was recognised for its Daniel Wiffen cover, which featured a photo of the Olympic swimming hero by Gerry Mooney. Life Magazine also picked up an award in the Magazine Supplements (weekly newspaper) section for its issue “Pressing forward”, which featured Olympian Philip Doyle on the front page.
In the Cover and Controversy category, the Sunday Independent won an award for its special report on the “Field of Broken Dreams” about claims made by multiple female footballers that they were subjected to unwanted or inappropriate sexual advances from FAI coaches in the 1990s.
The Indo Daily was also recognised for “Field of Broken Dreams” in the podcast category.
