  10. Greece + Italy = Naples, Capua etc. rather than Rome. And much latter even Ravenna and arguably Venice. But Rome goes back before the Greeks reached Latium, and its gene pool was almost entirely Italic (with some Etruscan) in origin… it just imitated the Greeks like everyone ultimately did.

    Likewise we don’t have much to do with forming Belgium. Just hosted a conference where all the great powers agreed and defended them a century later.

  11. Italy formed centuries after the Romans and the Lombard, Ostrogoths, Frankish, Norman, French, Austrian, Saracen and Spanish influence is just as important.
